Malaysian batik is said to have originated only in the 19th century, in the east coast states, Kelantan and Terengganu. The original Kelantan batik cloth, of rainbow shapes and block or stamping was produced in the early 19th century. Later, Javanese influence was evident in the form of the wax batik technique using the canting and hand drawing. For decades, batik producers from Kelantan and Terengganu have been more inclined towards traditional designs, and for some, stamped or hand drawn batik. I love batik so much. Batik art is one of the cultural identities of the Malaysian nation. The batik, with streaks of colours drawn using the canting on a piece of white cloth radiating beauty and accentuating the elegance of the wearer, has long been the material to clothe both men and women. In line with the current trend, batik is made not only into fashionable clothing or to drape the body. Its use is more varied, for example, as adornment in the home and also as a painting. Batik art is fast expanding and is a contributor to the country’tourism industry. The uniqueness of batik that depicts the Malay realm is so disticnt the the word `batik’ itself is maintained rather than translated in almost all the languanges of the world. Hence, as a traditional batik art must be preserved so that the beauty it exudes will not be forgotten by the future generation. Do you wear batik just like me? Okay guys let's wear batik..

I am really proud to read that someone really knows about Malaysian batik. I just love the colours and designs. Perfect for making outfit. I had a few baju kurung with batik designs which costs me more that 100 us dollar to make. But its worth the money. I love wearing it. I felt professional.

I guess every batik work is unique as each motif has its own meaning. I began to learn about batik through my book, Batik Inspirations (www.batikinspirations.com) and it was a wonderful learning experience for me. I now know what batik is about... and there's a distinct differences for batik in different countries. Batik Malaysia is unique for its modern and bold - and very colourful. And yes, when someone wears batik, its very beautiful. I do have my own batik shirts which I love to wear :) Warmest regards QuaChee www.batikinspirations.com www.batikinspirations.blogspot.com www.themalaysiapage.com www.quachee.blogspot.com
