I can tell you.
Sparrows are more stocky looking, and slightly larger and chunkier looking.
Swallows are very slender, more flexible, and have more of a V in their tails, and they are very swift, Sparrows if you approach their next will chatter at you, Swallows will dive at you. Sparrows like to next in trees and bushes next to the ledge, Swallows like to build their nests right below on the ledge, at least they do here in Wisconsin. Swallows our barns, and well even my garage. I have had a rare case where two swallows, one sparrow, and two other birds all shared the same next on my friend door they built on our christmas wreath one year. Sure was neat watching them, but approaching the front door for most people was not safe lol. - DNatureofDTrain
