There is a technique to making a cake and perhaps the easiest way would be to use a cake mix and follow the directions. Your oven should run true since the temperature is key in making a cake. Have fun while you learn since often you can eat your mistakes. If you have someone older in your family that makes birthday cakes for example try to see if they will teach you how they do it. Eventually you will develop your own style of baking cakes. I still make a lopsided cake from time to time. lol - Good luck!!
