I have my first (and hopefully last) night shift tonight. I start at 11:45pm (Its 4:10pm now) and finish at 12:15pm the next afternoon. Its the longest shift I have been given, and its at really awkward times. Its going to be busy at first, and then get dead queit, before getting really bust again. I was wondering if there was anybody else works nightshift here? Can you give me any tricks to surviving the night? The store isnt usually open at these times but with after christmasd sales it is now. Please Please Please help if you can.

i am a pharmacist and i used to work for 2 years in a hospital before. and shifting schedules change every 2 weeks. it was so hard at first. i get to work from 10pm to 6am the following day on a regular night shift schedule but when getting an overtime, i work from 6pm to 6am the following day. it was really tough. that's 5 day straight for 2 weeks! what i do is i sleep for 8 to 10 hours after work. i eat enough and relax during my free time. when at work during my night shift, i keep myself busy so i won't feel sleepy. plus i always try to have my hot chocolate drink all the time to help me keep awake.

with a set shedule you would be able to have your sleep patterns adjusted to match. I had one night of nightshift, then back to work the following day on my regular shift. Its allright, I survived. This all happened on the day after boxing day - been no replies till now

Auch Aye - they were my best friends at first. But I overdosed and coming down from a caffeine high is not very fun. I had a complete mental breakdown. at one point and they sent me off the floor (at which point I had coffee - lots of it) to relax for a few minutes.
