My brother-in-law recently had his phone stolen. First do the people realize that the phone will soon be shut off? and Second most service providers can "lock-out" that particular phone's seriel number. making it near impossible to re-activate. So why steal someone's phone?

Maybe the people that steal the phones are not smart enough to know that the cellular provider knows all this information. Maybe they think that it will just work until the person realizes it is gone and they can make free calls. But then...the phone numbers could also be traced back to the person. Why would do something that would trace them back? I found a guy's cell phone when I was out and about...my dog had to go potty and i found the phone in the grass there. It barely had any juice. But I was able to get phone numbers off of it to start calling to find the owner of the phone. Turns out, he had lost it while walking his dogs and it had been a few days. If someone else would have found it, then for those 3 days, that person could have ran up so many charges! And who is to say that even after 3 days he would have reported it lost or stolen? It just blew my mind that someone could be so careless with their phone service as to not call when they realized they had lost it. But hey...I am not him and he got lucky because I found it and call him to come get it.

No, my brother in law was very conscientious about turning it off immediately. but it was a brand new phone that was stolen right off of his belt. It made me so angry! But i guess there are people out there who just don't report it expecting it to turn up, and then go crazy when they get the bill with all the long distance charges and the going over minutes. Personally...we don't even have cell phones. LOL that's a plus and minus for us. If we're out and something happens..well..cell phone is a plus. but a minus is that at any given moment someone calls and they expect you to answer because it's a CELL PHONE. you should have it on you at all times. LOL i like being able to be incognito if i want to. Now when our son gets old enough...we'll get them. *sighs* but until then..no.

I'm the same way. I figure you'll notice the missed call number and call me back sooner or later. Now, if it's an emergency, that's a whole different ball game. but if you're calling me to say, hey, whatcha doin? geez. i completely understand!

That is my biggest gripe. People that expect an answer every single time, or they keep calling. If I wanted to talk to you, I would have answered or called you back right away!! Don;t call me 5 times in a row...

Yes I have told him about a couple of better cases that aren't as easy to slide a phone out of. but I really feel bad he was out looking for a gift for me

being the one who;s phone was stolen, I honestly can't see why someone would do it. I mean you could try and sell it on e-bay I guess - but that is about it.
