Cars, do you drive a manual or an Auto?

My husband prefers to drive an Auto Car, It doesn't bother me to drive Manual or Auto (I currently have a manual). We were debating about cars in the future, I said I want our daughter to learn to drive a Manual. He belives there will only be Autos in the future. Do you prefer to drive an Auto or a Manual & why also what kind of car are you driving now? I'll wait to see how the post goes before showing hubby.. lol

Manual, only manual. To drive a car is to use a manual! If you like to drive, you like manual, if you only want to be "moved" by your car, you use auto.

...obviously I'm talking about person who doesn't have particular problem. I don't think anyhing bad about who prefer auto but I prefer manual 'cause I find exciting to drive using it.

I drive automatic. I've never liked shifting and now I have fibromyalgia so the shifting actually causes muscle spasms which is not good when you're trying to drive. :-)

I like the convenience of an auto but also like the control you have in a manual car. I also believe they can be clutch started if you get into trouble and autos can't. Manuals are a fair bit cheaper to buy also, so that will always play a part with me. haha

I was so glad I was driving the auto today, on my roadtrip through Gympie, Qld Australia it was bumper to bumper traffic, it would have been murder in the manual.... :D

I have had 3 cars and all have been manual, I guess because I learnt in a manuel car I like to stick to it, everyone else I know has automatic cars and I think they seem to always be getting their automatic transmissions fixed, I never seem to have any trouble with my cars and I am not one that really looks after my cars either.

I drive automatic and have never learned how to drive manual. I have only known a few people that actually know how to drive a manual these days, but some people just love it

She should learn to drive a manual because then she can still drive an auto but if she only learns auto and if she had to drive a manual shift she wouldn't be able to. In Germany it used to be (perhaps still is)... if you take your driving test in an automatic transmission car that is noted on your driver's license and you'll get a ticket if you are stopped driving a manual transmission car.

The same is here in Australia if you get your licence on an auto that is all you can legally only drive.

I have and can drive both manuel and automatic and am glad I can, it would be a bad thing not to be able to drive a manuel if I had an emergency and it was the only type car I had available to drive.

totally agree, even if you don't drove a manual every day, basic knowlege is needed in case of an emergency.

I drive a manual and so does my husband. My son is learning to drive with a manual. It is a little harder to learn BUT anyone who can drive a manual transmission can switch to a anautomatic easily. The reverse is not true. My mother had only driven automatics but one day our family went for an eye exam in his manual, it was bigger. The doctor dilated his eyes and my mother HAD to drive home. We kids were terrified that we would never make it home. She kept stalling and the car kept bucking and jerking and it was a nightmare trip. Will they only have automatics in the future - not as long as men run the world - the guys love to shift those gears!

Oh well I must have one of those strange hubbies that prefer to have an auto, we are going on a road trip today, and we "have" to take his car so we can both drive. (I'll prob do most driving. less fights. I alway know where I am going lol)

Actually I have a car that does both! My classic 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle is a stick shift-automatic! You shift gears but you do not have a clutch! I always laugh at the car wash when I try to tell the guys how to drive it. They always tell me they know how and then have to call me back out to show them!

My father taught me how to drive manually and well took me about 2 weeks before I finally learned how to drive but well... My mother wants me to drive automatic cars, she says it would be safer for me. Well i think that manulas are better than automatic because its less expensive and does not easily gets damaged unlike the automatic that needs more maintainance and is more expensive than manual cars

I believe if you can drive a manual well it is very automatic. I know I have to concentrate harder when driving the auto to not try and hit a clutch. lol

I drive an automatic which I like much better than a straight drive. I don't mind a 5 speed if I am not in heavy traffic. But on the whole I would rather drive an automatic.

Hey dats a nice topic...juz few days ago i learnt driving. I juz love manual transmission because its damn fun..you will be atleast alert and helps you a lot in emergencies like break faliure or battery discharge. I don't know about future of transmission of cars but i bet there are more people who like to drive using manual transmission(MT) than auto transmission(AT). Driving a MT is more fun than AT

I drive both auto and manual, I enjoy driving a manual if its a sports car or a truck for pulling. They are fun to drive, and generaly cheaper to maintain and fix!

I drive a auto. 94 Dodge Pick up. Most all car companies are switching over to auto. except some sport cars. But it is a good idea to learn to drive a manual. Just in case you leave the country and get stuck with a manual rent-a-car

I drive an automatic. I tried driving a manual but I'm too short to reach. My fiance has a manual and I can't drive his truck. Next truck he buys will be an automatic.
