Would you buy the relic of a Saint on Ebay?

The sale of body parts or remains is forbidden on ebay but some people are avoiding this by offering the reliquary for sale and including the relics it contains as a 'gift'. The sale of relics is forbidden by the Catholic Church, so where are these relics coming from?

Ok that is just nasty! Where they are coming from is a great question. I reckon instead of St. So n So's left toe bone, it's probably from the remains of Boo Boo the chimp. The next question is, why do these people want these things? Having body parts laying on the coffee table is just plain old icky! And to think, I thought Grandma's teeth in the bath room was rude! Then again, it's ebay and people will buy any thing on there. I seen a cain that held the spirt of someone's grand father on sale there.LOL People are just funny creatures.

I do not believe these are relics. anything of value would be kept by the Catholic Church. I don't think we need relics to know the true meaning of God's plan.I don't believe they have magical powers. No, I would not bid on a relic, real or fake.

You may well be right. I could go to plenty of places I know and pick up a bit of old bone, put it in a shiny gold box and say it was the first two fingers of the right hand of St Faciu of Romania (a very little known saint, Patron Saint of the Oppressed and Insulted).

I wouldn't have the slightest interest in buying these, whether they are real or not. Just because somebody is selling something doesn't mean that I would be interested in buying it.

I gave a really insensitive answer to your discussion. I am really very sorry. Please accept my apology. I don't think that these relics should be put up for sale and it is surprising to see when they are and it makes you wonder if they are real or if someone is making fake copies. Either way, they shouldn't be sold.

I didn't really expect ANYONE to say that they would be remotely interested in buying such things. I was just so amazed that anyone could consider putting something like that up for auction (quite apart from the fact that the provenance of these things is remarkably hard to come by!)

Well speaking as someone who is a slight cynic on these matters, I'm not so sure those things really are 'real' relics, but to be honest it's not something I'd like to have at all, I'm not really a great believer in curses or suchlike, but I wouldn't have anything like that in my house, just in case. I'm sure they shouldn't even be giving things like that away. If they are genuine pieces I really do wonder where they'd have got them from, I imagine they wouldn't have been able to go grave robbing for them, I imagine the graves would either have been plundered long ago and be empty now, or they'd have guards or someone protecting them. The other thing is, the selling of relics is forbidden by the 'Catholic Church', but not other churches or religions, therefore someone of another religion would probably have no qualms about selling or buying them. As for why anyone would want one, well, that's totally beyond me, unless they want them for some ritualistic type thing. As for me, nope, I really wouldn't like one.

I don't believe in Saints. I wouldn't buy a relic from the Catholic Church, especially if I thought it had a body part in it.

Yuck, me too. Do you know what's in those? The meat could be from over 1000 different cows from all over the world.
