Cut a queue - How do you react to a person that cuts a queue in front of you?

My wife told me that she just had a quarell with a military sergeant this morning as this person cut the queue exactly in front of her when queuing to register for seeing pediatrician in a hospital. This person was so arogant but my wife just did not want to give up her line as she has been waiting quite long. Finally a security jumped into the quarell and asked politely this military man to queue normally. What would you do to a person that cuts a queue like that? I think I will punch him...

i've been on that situation many times ... well, yeah it's here indonesia ... what i ussually do is politely remind him/her, and if it doesn't work, then i'll complain to the teller / receptionist.

I totally agree with you. My wife always reacts to anything unfair that is happening in front of her. She just does not care with whom she deals with. I am scared myself sometimes.

Solution 1: A queue of proxy (eg. a queue of water pots before a water tap- this is quite common in India. The water pot queue is respected, though occasionally squirmishes lead to murders.) 2. The hospital staff give paper/card/plastic/metal tokens to patients on first come first serve basis. They send patients inside by calling numbers serially. This works fairly well. Exceptions are make by the Doctor himself for those who had a telephone appointment or extremely urgent unable-to-bear pain cases. Another alternative is the hospital staff write names of patients in advance and call names. 3. You will be shocked to hear (I was also shocked when I first heard): Candidates seeking US visas start standing/sitting/sleeping in a queue on the road before the gate of American Consulate in Chennai, the previous night itself. Here queue breaking is done quite intelligently. Some poor youth who has physical stamina will stand in the queue on his own, throughout the night. The real visa seeker pays about Rs. 100 (approx. $2) to the youth and occupy his place. The youth earns his livelihood. The queuebreaker gets his interview! 4. Once my boss and I went to a film. My boss was very particular about rules both in office and outside. Both of us were standing in the queue. There were iron rods on both sides of queue like this: [|]. A strong youth with long strides walked on the steel rods with one leg on each rod and went upto the ticket counter. My boss resisted it and caught hold of his pants, shouting at him. There was no police or security staff around. I too helped my boss to the best of my ability. But our strength was not sufficient. That person was too rude and said: "I shall make you tamarind" (To indicate that he would make us into a paste) and without caring he inserted his hand into the counter and took his ticket. We sought help from neighbours. Nobody came to our rescue. On that day in 1985 I took a pledge not to go to films, come what may. Now 22 years. My boss continued his habit of going to films, of course, without being made tamarind. I lost some entertainment. I saved some hard-earned money.
