They other day driving I seen a cop directing traffic while on the cell phone. I have a hard time looking at them it seems like every time I get somewhere that needs them. They are talking to the people who are trying to work, and then when they notice you they start yelling at you because there not paying attension! Does this happen to you? How do you feel? The cell phone doesn't bother me to much I know people have family emergencies or some personal buisness that needs to get done during the day. But what are your thoughts?

I think cell phones are great for emegencies. But a cop? Come on he has a two way radio if he is conducting any police work. I am sure this was a personal call and not an emergency. My tax dollars are paid for cops to do their job not talk on cell phones for pleasure. I may have been inclined to report that incident. Not to be harsh, but you are paying his salary, so how long do you think a boss would put up with you being on a cell phone while helping one of his clients? Not for long. You would be reprimanded, so I think the cop should be too!

I agree with you. He shouldn't be distracted while directing traffic of all things. I know it's not a hard job but he has a lot of control over peoples lives and to just ignore that fact and chat away on a cell phone seems irresponsible to me.

police with a cell phone - cell phones have infiltrated into our lives. intruding and sometimes saving situations
Hopefully since all you see is flavored by your perception he was discussing traffic with a controller in charge of lights or something. Cell phones can be a tool, however I agree that it should be in its place and not a permanent part of your arm. Some things are just worth waiting for and not necessarily immediate. Oh and maybe it had a photo feature and he just caught someone breaking the law!

I have a cell phone and I love it, I don't mind them so much except if i see they are distracting people why they are driving or if they are talking very loudly on it while we are in line somewhere or trying to eat.

This just proves further that the use of cell phones are a distraction when you are doing something that requires concentration. So many people get upset at the law in our state (NY) banning cell phone use while driving, but it has been proven that talking on the phone distracts you in a different way than even talking to a passenger in the car. This cop should take a lesson from that- he was supposed to be doing a job, and he was definitely distracted.
