Hi safetyguru :) I don't officially get any days off for the holidays because I'm self-employed. But I do my best to relax when I can and I really put my foot down this year about the amount of work I was willing to do on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (to quote you... "not too much!!"). New Year's Eve and New Year's Day will be the same. I have spent a lot of years working right through every holiday and, this year, enough was enough LOL

Hey thinkingoutloud, Some say owning your own business is easier than working for someone. I guess this is not true. When you think about it, it is probably harder.

Well, it has its advantages, for sure, but there are some downsides to it that people never seem to think about. Not getting vacations and holidays off when you want them is definitely something to consider. Most folks think that being self-employed means your schedule is entirely at your discretion and, while you do get some flexibility, you still have clients or people with expectations. I guess it all boils down to the level of professionalism and service that you're willing to provide. Since my success has to be based on positive word of mouth, I try to be as available as I can :)
