A Plea From The Store Front Clerks

I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but someone has to say it. The customer is not always right, not even close half the time. I hear a lot of talk about what is good and bad customer service. What Clerks should and shouldn't do for a customer. In an ideal wold we would all like to follow those guidelines, but the raw fact is It is rare to be able to do so. One of the biggest things that annoys me is a customer taking 20 minutes to chose which product they wish to purchase. Its not a problem unless they want me to help them for that full 20 minutes. What the customer needs to realize is that although there custom is important to us, so is the custom of the other 50 customers in the store. Do you really think its fair for us to spend all our time with you and not assist the other customers who also require help. Not to be rude or anything but you are not always the most important thing in the store. Another thing to remember is if we say we have no more out in the store room - don't make us go out there and look. Although we may not always know whats there, if we say were out, then we know were out, and you are wasting our time making us look. Customers also need to remember that serving them is not the only job we have. Shelves need filling, merchandise needs labeling, cleaning needs to be done, orders placed, signage printed... I could go on. There are a million and one jobs that need to be done to make your shopping a pleasant experience. If you take up all out time then none of it gets done. Also if I say I am with a customer - don't get angry at me - because how would you feel if I abandoned you and went of and served someone else. wait your turn. Sign your credit cards before coming into the store, make sure your signatures match. this is for your protection - not ours. If your card gets stolen its your money being used. If I ask to see a drivers license (to confirm your signature because the one on your card is smudged or vanished - don't call me a**** head. Its offensive and I am only trying to protect your interest. I enjoy giving good customer service, It gives me a great feeling to know that I have gone beyond the call of duty for a customer. put please please please what I am begging is for a little patience and understanding. Sometimes we are to busy to do that - and I would really appreciate it if you understood that - and didn't expect the impossible or outrageous. Please, next time you go shopping, please be nice to your clerk. They are going to do there best to give you a nice a day as possible - please return the favor.

Wow, I bet you feel better now you got that off your chest! I totally agree, and I always have the adage, the customer is always WRONG! It's up to you to correct them! I have worked in both customer contact and on the phones and I have to say the public are much ruder to you on the phones because its easier, and they don't have to face you! They can be as rude as they like, you are only a voice and you are responsible for everything and all the complaints come to you not the big managers who sit in their little ivory towers. I fully agree with you and unfortunately it's the poor customer service clerk who gets it in the neck all the time. If I have a complaint I always speak to the manager because it's down to him and he's the one who's responsible. You are the person in the front line and they'll take it out on you, even if its raining outside for example, it'll be your fault. Hey I sympathise with you!

I do have to agree with this. I worked for years in a retail store. We were lucky there, since most of our customers were good. But I did have my share of people who would steal things and then want to bring them back for a refund with no receipt.

I've worked retail before and some customers are just plain rude. Especially around the holidays. That's why I'm a bit forgiving when a cashier or clerk seems to be having a bad day and is short tempered.

You understand how hectic it can be. A cashier or clerk is usually doing 5 different jobs as well as serving customers. I think its one of the most under rated jobs out there. Thanks for understanding
