It depends on the size of tv you want to buy. LCD is good up to 37" or 40". You pay really very much for a good LCD screen that looks good and has an LCD technology. Instead Plasma are better for bigger tv, like 50-52". LCD are more higher in resolution, so HDTV is possible on them. I'd prefer to buy an LCD tv over a Plasma tv, because plasma energy consumption is much higher! They take up to 350-400Watt per hour! Intead an LCD tv eats up to 100-150W! Samsung makes awesome LCD but it's very expensive. Philips has their line of LCD and Plasma, they look great because they have Pixel Plus technology (1 2 or 3..the most advanced) and the "Ambilight" system, a neon that change colour and give lights to the room to get a clear vision of tv without any light. LG is only making cheaper lcd screens (really cheap...), so if you don't want to spend much money you could consider LG lcd screens. I think the life span is great on LCD than on Plasma
