I don't want to get into details of what I do but it is a desk job. This is the first desk job I have ever had. It is with the goverment so I make good money. My background is electronics. I have worked in a casnio, as a teacher, in the miltary and at a radio station. I like to work with people. Sitting at a desk all day is driving me crazy. I am on disabilty right now for an illness. My mom gets mad at me when I say I dont like my job because she says I am lucky to be working in a job with good money and benfits. I have to wonder if that is everthing. Anyone else in this position.

Since you like working with people, that is the type of job you should be doing. If you are happpier working with others, try and come up with a job that would be perfect for you. When you are in your ideal job situation, you will have a tendancy to do well and improve your chances for raises and promotions. And your day will be much more enjoyable. You won't dread waking in the morning to go to a job you dislike. Or, you might eventually venture out and create the kind of job you would love. I think you have to like your job or what you are doing to give yourself the best chance to excel. If you stick with a job you don't reallly like, you will grow disgruntled and be unlikely to do the best you can. You have a varied background, so I would think you could fit in to many jobs that work around people. What happens is many people don't like their job or complain about them, but they don't really take the time to figure out what they might really want to do. So they end up spending years or decades doing a job(s) they don't fit into all that well. If you can decide on the type of work you are interested in doing, make some changes and do something everyday to work toward getting that special position. Know what direction you want to take, and then move in that direction with a purpose and with confidence. Taking action now will be well rewarded down the road. Don't accept less than you know you want and are capable of handling.

Well I am on disability but I am not working anymore which upsets me as I used to love to work and I think your Mum is right as you are able to work and get out. What is it that you do not like about your Job? I was bullied out of my Job when I was diagnosed with my Illness, I loved the Job and had been there 8 years.

I don't like not working directly with the public. I hate sitting at a desk all day. Also it is a job with high stress and it takes alot of mental ability (I don't know if this is the correct term) to do it. Since my bipolar has got worse, I barely can reply to a discussion. One guy gave me a hard time on my grammar the other day. I used to write letters daily in my job with no problems.

To be happy, you must do what you enjoy. Money isn't everything. What good is it if you are unhappy? Change your job. I'm sure that you will find something you enjoy more with good pay and benifits. Good luck. I've been there, and I left. Now I'm happy.

Yes I am in the same EXACT situation. I have had many different jobs in the past. I have 5 degrees and have been a forrester, a paralegal, retail and fast food manager, dog groomer, paper route carrier, you name it I have done it. But due to a disability I had to resort to an office job. The first one I had was a dispatcher for an oil company, I hated it! Mainly because it was 24 hours a day on call and I never got any time off without a cell phone or pager by my side. This one is better in that respect it is only 7-4 M-F, the pay is great but I hate the job, I do very little and when I do work it is only for a few hours. Everything can be completed in minutes unless the boss is here and he screws everything up so much it takes days to straighten it out. The pay is excellant, the benefits are great, the bonuses are great, but the job sucks. I am told the same thing, I should be grateful I have a job and I am grateful, I just wish it was more exciting. So I spend my time online making friends and more money at the expense of the company. LOL

You're not crazy to feel the way that you feel. If you feel that you enjoy working with people, then I hope that you can find a job where you can do so and be happier. Personally, a desk job would suit me well. I already spend most of my time working at this computer anyway, and I'm shy, so the less people I would have to deal with at my job the better. We all have types of jobs that we are suited for. You are obviously not suited for a desk job, whereas someone like me proably is. I really wish you well in finding a better job where you will be happier. Happiness is so important! ^_^

What you say makes sense. My husband is extremely shy and he could never work in an office or with people. He has gone to college but still works as a labourer because that is what he enjoys.

Well I think it is important to do something you like especially if you have another 20 or so years till you retire. You have to be happy. Although I am sure there is a huge percentage of the population that doesn't like their job but hey what can you do.
