My partner and I were having a disagreement the other day about weather. LOL He prefers to live in a state that it does not get so cold and I prefer to live in a state that does not get so hot. I can not stand the heat of the weather. One can only take off so much clothes to try to stay cool. But when it is cold, one can layer to stay warm. What do you prefer? Do you think there is a state we could love in for a compromise? We currently live in Oklahoma.

How hot does it get in Oklahoma during the summer? Here is Iowa I think that you get the worst of both. It is constantly over 100 degress in the summer and most of the time in the winter (expect for this one) it is around 0 degress, but much colder with the wind chill. I think that I personally would prefer some where that always has a either warm weather or hotter. I hate the cold weather. While I do agree with your logic about putting on cloths as opposed to taking them off... I HATE the cold!

We reach the triple digits here in the summer also. This past summer it got as high as 114 degrees F. That is too hot for me and I want to move north. But the winters are too cold for him. You would think I would be complaining more because I have less meat on my bones than him and I am shaking like a leaf straining to be the last to let go of the branch! Which he says is because I don't have much insulation. LOL But even though I point out his comments...he says that I should want to live where it is warmer. *sigh* Trying to find that compromise is hard.

Where in Iowa do you live that it is constantly over 100 degrees in the summer and most of the time in the winter it is around 0 degrees? The average tempature in January is 8-28 degrees and in July is 64-89 degrees. Though I think it's a tad higher then that with global warming and all. (Need proof medooley? Check out www.worldalmanacforkids.com) I would love to move to a warmer part of the country and my husband dreams of moving north! Chances are will live in the Midwest the rest of our lives!

Oh, I forgot to mention that when I'm pregnant I love the cold weather ... even that seems hot to me. My first pregnancy I wouldn't let my hubs have the thermostat above 58 at night and still had a fan blowing on me!

I live in Alberta Canada and our summers get hot 30 degrees above 0 and winters can get to 30 degrees below 0. When it is winter, we look forward to the summer because it's so much easier. You don't have to dress up the kids, start the car in the morning etc. I do like winter too because of winter sports like hockey. I'm glad though we have all the seasons and not just one.

In canada they use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. So 30 Celsius degrees would be 86 Fahrenheit degrees which is a pretty normal temperature.

Um, am I mistaken or is 30 degrees above 0 still below the freezing point? I didn't think that Canadians even used degrees as measurement for tempature, is that where the problem lies or am I way off base in all of this?

I much perfer to live somewhere were it gets cold. I find it so much easier to get warm if I am cold then I do if I am hot and trying to find a way to cool off. I would be seriously upset if I lived somewhere where we didn't have all four seasons.

See, I completely agree with you. I grew up in Florida where we had two seasons. Hot and humid or cool and windy. I like the four seasons! I never understood the real concept until I was an adult, moved, and experienced them for myself. He wants to move back down south and I want to move further up north. Alaska would be nice! LOL :)

I do too have the same problem with my partner. She does not like cold weather, on another hand I love cold weather. And I could not agree more that during winter, you can layer up your jacket, add more heater. but during hot weather..there is nothing you can do. you can add more air con, but if you are outside..definately I am not the one who will walk naked :P

i love cold weather because it gives you a reason to stay closer to someone! ... there are way more hugs in cold weather than where it's warm! ... there are tons of ways to ger warm but there are not that many ways to get colder ... and you get a way better feeling when your cold and feel warmth

Great point!!! When I am cold and I jump into bed, I sure do like to snuggle in closer and it does feel really good! But when I am hot...I can not stand for his foot to even touch me! Thanks for more ammo...I'll try that approach too. :)

A street in Saffron Walden - Saffron Walden is a small but thriving market town in Essex
There's a little place which, some people say, is a contender for the 51st State. It's called England. In summer it rarely gets above 80 and in winter not often below about 25. It has beautiful scenery - mountain wildernesses, lakes, lovely architecture - and you are never more than about 50 miles from the sea. It has convenient access to the continent, with all the variety and excitement of peoples with different languages and cultures. Its inhabitants enjoy some of the best TV on the planet, an excellent education system, a free health service (though you can opt for private health care if you wish). There is a great variety of housing and convenient facilities, often within walking distance. The cost of living is probably rather higher than most places in the US and gas is more than twice the price, though this is offset by the fact that one needs to use a car less than most Americans do.

I like it somewhere in between. I live in West Texas, which is like a desert here, and we have Super Summers. I hate the heat - triple digits every day for several days in a row. But I also hate the extreme cold. I've found I like it somewhere around 60-70 degrees with low humidity. I agree with you about heat though. I've always said, "You can always put on more clothes, but you can only take so much off!"

I agree its easier to protect ourself from coolness of the winter season by layering ourself as much as we can but its not the case in summers. You can take off all clothes and still feel as hot as fire. I too prefer winters rather than summers. If you find any such place with a balance of winter and summer do tel me, have a nice chilly winter.

The hot wheater of course. You can do more things if it's hot. The bills in the winters increase, too. I live in Bulgaria. Here we have 4 seasons and I love them all.

I'm in east texas where the winters are generally pretty mild but the summers are killers. If I have to have a lot of cold or a lot of heat, I'll take the cold because it's easier to get warm than it is to cool off. At least for me. As for a state for compromise, hawaii might be a good option..if you can afford it! ;)

I enjoy the changing seasons. My bones don't care much for the frigid weather. I would rather have warmth. I do not enjoy humidity. Moving south would be ideal if not for the humid weather. I love the northeast. That is where I will stay. If you like the 4 seasons, come on by!

For myself I prefer the cold weather. As you stated I can put more on but I can only take so much off. After spending several days here in Florida with no a/c after the hurricanes hit (no power for 4 days and we were one of the lucky ones) you really get to feel how hot it is. If need be with it being really cold you could start a fire to help you keep warm. The weather gets too hot even the water doesn't help you cool down because it's temperature gets up there too. Besides i find that when it's hot and humid my asthma kicks in more then when it's cooler.

I was living in Florida when we were hit with the back to back hurricanes too! :) I lost power also. But only for a week and that is still lucky to some. But it was horribly hot and humid after the hurricanes! And when you factor in that I have seven children, it was even hotter with all that body heat at night. We all slept in the front room together because I was afraid of having too many windows open thoughout the house and them not being close to me. Anyone could crawl through a window then. So, it got really really hot!!! Hence, a good reminder that I really dislike the heat! And your right, had it been cold, we could have lit a fire in the fireplace.

I'm not sure if there is a place that will suit both of you. San Francisco does come close; it seldom gets too hot or too cold there. However, the cost of living there is extremely high. I can sympathize with the wish to avoid hot weather. Whenever the temperature gets above 75 F. I start threatening to move to Canada. I hate hot and humid weather. It's difficult to breath and do anything at all.

I went to San Francisco once in July. I was living at Travis AFB between San Fran and Sacremento. It was burning hot at Travis. It was July. So I expected it to be so. But when we went to the San Fran Zoo, we had to buy sweat shirts because we were freezing! Was that normal? That was July 1998 if that helps to answer my question. But as soon as we got closer to Travis, we got out of the car for a potty break and I was melting again. Amazing how just that little drive was so much different in weather. If it were not for the cost of living, I could see living there also. :)
