Do you know someone with Asperger's? Do you have it yourself? I'd like to know -- my father has it. I don't, though I do have a few residual traits. Growing up was... interesting.

Do I ever know someone! My hubby and 7 yr old son both have Asperger's! My husband was always 'labeled' as add, excentric, super shy etc... My son is a more extream case. He likes to spin...constantly,has trouble making eye contact yet loves to kiss and hug! I think it is very possible that you have some traits...my daughter who definatly does not have AS tends to have some traits. I often wonder if some of his quirks aren't picked up by my daughter and I.I know sometimes it is easier to just *go with the flow* and do some pretty odd things to help his comfort level increase.

The nature vs. nurture debate is very relevant to those of us who have AS. One of my best friends is thankfully able to get early intervention for her son who is showing the same signs she had of AS. She is trying to keep them from labelling him though with the hopes he can be schooled out of the traits and that it was nurture/example and not nature/genetics.

My nephew is autistic and it is very hard for the parents to deal with at times. He has a very acute stage and so he is not very functional. I dont know what happened...I saw this child being born and then I saw him grow up normal until he was 2 years old and then all of a sudden, he was autistic. Very sad day when he was diagnosed. Sorry to hear about your dad. thanks for the topic.

Severe autism is tough to deal with, especially when it's regressive as you're describing. I'm sorry. The good thing is that early diagnosis and intervention is the best help. I hope your nephew can improve somewhat, at least, with time. Thanks for the kind words about my dad. Since Asperger's per se is very high-functioning, he wasn't diagnosed until he was in his sixties, though everyone always knew he was "odd." It was weird to think of at first, but it really fits who he is.

Interesting or tough? I dont call isolation as fun. Aspergers tend to be isolated persons.

Hi ! ... first off I would like to say I really like your av pic! *pokes her user-name* Now ... as to your question, YES, and YES! I am sure my children will be in your shoes as adults, well at least two of them. I have not been diagnosed (long story) but I am about 99% sure that I have Aspergers and also that my oldest child does. He is now 8 and is also high functioning (as am I) but socially very delayed/impaired. I have learned (the hard way!) how to cope with some of the issues it causes, but do worry at times that it will affect my children. I have three boys, none of whom most people would consider quite "normal" so life here is off-beat from whats considered normal. I like to call it living outside the box. Anyway ... nice to see your post! Feel free to add me I would be more then happy to chat with ya if you like!
