Virus, Worms, Attacts, and whatever to the Internet:why?

It is very difficult for me as a new member of MYLOT and also as a new user on the Internet to digest the attacts of hackers and bad people making it un-easy and unpleasant for us to use this most fantastic invention of PC's and the Internet. Can there be any room for Virus, Worms etc. in our technological world? Can there be any pleasure for anybody to harm or discomefort someone far away that they do not even know. My question is only why? Thanks for anti-virus etc. programs.

some people are very sad and have nothing better to do than develop viruses to damage and distroy, to me they are the scum of the earth and should do time in prison for doing this sort of thing

Thanks for your comment. I agree that these bad people be sent to an International Concern where they must be forced to develop programs and means to correct their wrong doings. They nust spend their knowledge and expertese to help the Internet and MYLOT community

First, welcome to the world wide web, second, this world is corrupted much like the reality world. People are always out to harm or destroy another person. Much like the chatrooms, when people boot people out, or lag up their computer. Virus and worms are created to destroy and take information. There is no room for it here, but people are hell-bent on trying to make it so. I hope you never come across a worm, those are the far worse, or so ive heard. A friend of mine had her computer system completely infected by a worm, and it took her almost 18 hours and professional assistance to get it back up and running, but of course it was at the original state that it was in when it was purchased. All from a email that she thought was from a friend but someone had stolen her friends email and sent the worm. Good luck and be safe:)

I am in total agreement. It's hard to believe there are people that like to make life miserable for others and they will exist whether or not the internet was in existance. We just have to keep one step ahead of them. Bad guys will always be here, but I do know what you mean. And at least, like you said there are programs that we have to counteract these bullies, that's all they are. So, good luck in making money on mylot. I've seen others that made a lot and I have already spent my $10.29 which I'm happy about.

I don't know why there are virus or worms and bad things. Maybe the only cause is money. They do viruses that steal password to get your bank account or your credit card details :(. I cannot understand viruses that just destroy data and operating system :(....I don't know why always new viruses are made...it's very strange. There are spywares too...and the worst thing: rootkit! The worst nightmare of these days...a software that can hold control of your whole system hiding inside it and hiding to XP system too! XP is owned by a rootkit and your machine becomes a zombie! A zombie programmed to send spam email, catch passwords or credit cards, do attacks...a really bad thing. You are lucky to know already myLot community..welcome on myLot!! Do you want advices about antivirus and protection software you can get? I would suggest KAV6, Kaspersky Antivirus 6, the best antivirus for me (but you must buy it..) or AVS, Active Virus Shield (a freeware one..sponsored by AOL). As firewall you could use Jetico firewall. Download Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware too. Get Spyware blaster too. But the first advice I give to you is : USE YOUR BRAIN! Don't open all files, don't open exe, pif, com, bat and other executable attachments! Use Firefox browser and your internet experience will be safe!

I guess, those programs were developed for the network administrators to use it remotely for their clients. But hackers use it for their own world to have some fun. It's just insane to turn someone's system upside down. I wanna ask you guys a question, does antivirus companies pay virus programmers for their work? And then the antivirus company develops the tool to remove it? I mean, computer viruses have created a whole new market and job opportunities...

nihalnihal Your view seems to agree with most of the eople who use internet. there is an old Russian story in which one man makes a bomb which can be sent by amissile to the enemy territotry. He then goes to the enemy with apropasl for development of anti missile. hethen comes bak to the first party with a propsal for making an antimissile missile. he then goed to the second party proposing a antimissile missile shield. The Virus story is also the same. The idea is selling anti virus products.

There is no need to worry about such things. I had more trouble with viruses 20 years ago than I have had since being connected to the Internet. At that time, my computer contracted viruses from floppy disks being traded around by my kids. Since being connected to the 'Net, I have not used any antivirus software, and have never had any sort of infection, whether a true virus or a worm, trojan or rootkit. I am connected to the 'Net 24 hours a day, and, even if I were not behind a router with a firewall, I would still not need antivirus software. Even though I use a no-name, off-the-shelf, Pentium 4 computer, viruses and other malware are not an issue -- because I don't run Windows. With careful use, Windows can be reasonably secure: don't use Outlook Express or Internet Explorer, for a start. But I don't need to worry when I receive an e-mail containing a virus; I could have played a Sony CD with the infamous "copy protection rootkit" that installed a gaping hole on Windows systems and not lost a minute's sleep. I use a Unix-type operating system. These are immune to all Windows' malware, and though they have a few vulnerabilities of their own, causing serious damage is very, very difficult. Even if a virus (in the narrowest sense of the word) is installed on a*nix computer, there is very little chance of its propagating to other machines. Worms and trojans are more troublesome, but even they are unlikely to cause much, if any, damage; rootkits are more of a problem, but are easily rooted out. And none of them can be spread simply by sending (and the recipient opening) e-mails. When a new vulnerability is discovered, it is usually fixed within days, if not hours -- usually long before anyone has exploited it. In many instances, no one has even been able to write an exploit; it remains a purely theoretical vulnerability. Besides being vastly more secure than Windows, there are many*nix OSes available free of charge. They will run on systems that are inadequate for Vista. I run GNU/Linux on a 1.6MHz P4 with 256MB RAM; my daughter and granddaughter use machine that are less than half as fast and have less RAM.

Its interesting. I always wondered if a programmer would develop a virus that would go after viruses like an antibodie.

Plain and simple its because of money. If you think about it if there are no more viruses then all the big anti virus companies would be out of business. Pure economics plain and simple.

I think that the lack of that to make makes with that certain people believe that is nice to ruin the PC of somebody. I think that when more to divulge mylot little people had been without making nothing, therefore mylot will go entertains them of a surprising form. Thinks: If all hackes used Mylot, would not lose its time ruining Pcs of the other people.

My thought to this is because of money too. People want information, personal information to steal your identity and everything. But to actually fry a computer for no reason, I don't understand. Hey maybe the big companies out there create the stuff so we have to buy the anti-virus programs, like it is another way to make money for them. Who knows. But they are annoying that is for sure.

I think it is the antivirus companies that send the viruses to stay in business. I had the odd worm or adwere here and there, but the 'traffic' in our computer after I decided to 'tackle' the little problems and bought and world class antivirus was uncomparable. It almost did not recover. Now that the antivirus has expired I am happily browsing without, and must say, without problems thanks God.

Bad things have crept into every place and similarly on the net, by bad people who want to indirectly earn with their own anti-virus programs.

Anything you can do I can do better. I think that's where it starts. I have a friend that has to have a better story that anyone else. So when we are at a party and anyone tells a story he can't hardly wait for them to stop talking so he can tell a better story. Creating viruses and other destructive or annoying programs is in most cases just trying to be better than the next guy or gal.
