How often do you clean/update your computer?

I was just curious as to how often all of you clean/update your computers. Moreover, what programs do you use to keep spyware/adware at bay? How do you prevent those dreaded viruses and worms? How often do you update your computer security wise or just generally clean your computer to keep your PC running smoothly? I have been updating my computer at least every weekend, and I have used free programs such as AdAware and the Norton that came with my PC. So far I have not been satisfied. Any suggestions on maintainence methods and programs?
