Do you use a clothes dryer or the clothes line?

I like to use the clothes line on a nice day. The clothes always smell so fresh if they are air dried. At times though laziness wins out and I use the clothes tumble) dryer. What do you do?

My laziness usually wins out too. In the winter I like to run the dryer because it heats the house up a bit and I am a miser when it comes to using the furnace. But in the summer I really hate bees and I swear they wait out at the clothesline for me, so I usually end up running the dryer then too.

My dryer is with my washing machine in the outside laundry, so it would make no difference to me.

Mine is an inside laundry off the dining room so it is handy in winter..

Heating is a bit of the reason I use the dryer in the winter also. Does two jobs at once I think so must be a good idea!!

We rarely get nice days here in Ireland, but on those nice days I will hang out woolens and silks. Everything else either goes into the clothes dryer, regardless of the weather, or on the radiators. I always take the bed linen to the laundry as I don't like ironing sheets.

I put my sheets in a pillow case and store them all together.

OOh never iron sheets!!! I don't think my mum ever did that either. If someone did it for me it would be nice though. The weather is a bit unpredictable in Tasmania (aust) too so the tumble dryer gets a bit of use.

Thanks for your comment. I always make sure the washing is well spun first too. It takes less time to dry.

I use the clothes dryer all the time, as it takes too long to hang them on the line. If I am not using the dryer, I use the clothes airer as some things cannot go in the dryer, such as certain shirts, etc. I hung two jackets on the line today, but put them on coat hangers so I could take them off easily. I work all day, every day, so it is usually dark when I get home anyway, and I don't have time to hang them on the line in the mornings, so the dryer is so much easier. I don't think of it as lazy to use the dryer, just the right thing to do for my situation.

I often hang jackets or special shirts on a hanger on the line. They keep their shape a lot better.

They smell nice that is for sure. Also when I had babies nappies I always put them on the line to bleach them with the sun.

I used to have a rottweiler that would take every towel and sheet off the line every time I did the washing. I know what you mean.

Each has their reason for using one or the other. That's what this site is all about - opinions. Thanks for your response.

I sold my tumble dryer when we moved 4 years ago and have not missed it. I love my washing to be put out on the line but of course in Winter months use the clothes airer. The sheets are usually the biggest problem but seem to manage quite well.

I didn't have a dryer for a few months when I moved to Tassie and it was hell in winter getting things like towels dry as I had to turn them upside down halfway through the day. I hated it

I always use the dryer. I don't have a line, and it is too much work that way.

Yeh. Having said that, it is a lovely day out and I have a load of washing in the dryer... today I'm too lazy.

I really don't have an outside clothes line. In fact I have tons of laundry to do, and tons to put away. I have a clothes line inside, in my basement.

I must admit I am guilty of using the clothes dryer a lot, I use to put it on the line, by the time I got home from work, I would forget it was on the line, 3 days later I would remember (when I ran out of clothes), & have to rewash them anyway. If I want my husband to do washing he will only put them through the dryer, but I do rescue some items & put them on hangers & hang in the bathroom or shower cubical.

At least they get washed! I start with good intentions sometimes and then forget that I have done the washing and have to do them all over.

clothes line all the way, I dont like driers, they use to much power. If its raining I have a door top mini line I can use indoors, I place it on the laundry door and it makes sure my clothes are dry for the next day.

We have aclothes airer since I moved to Tasmania. The weather is a bit unpredictable especially in winter. I lasted most of my first winter here using that in front of the fireplace, but it used to take forever with three children.

I always hang them outside except in winter. I love the smell and they are dry in no time. I think it helps in keeping the electric bill down alittle too.
