In tjis age of globalisation our world and our lives are being shaped by conflicting trends as we open ourselves to new arenas of information, worldviews, opportunities and identity formation. The information technology revolution and the restructiong of capitalism have induced a new way of working in society characterised by the globalisation of strategic economic decisions. Networking flexibility has led to the individualisation of labour and a virtually universal culture. The transformation of the material foundations of life and of space and time has formed a new kind of social organisation. Inits pervasiveness it is being diffused throughout the world, shaking institutions, transforming cultures, creating wealth and poverty, spurring greed and imposing hardships, innovating hope and instilling despair - in short, building a new world.
