Does your home have a home security system installed and/or video surveillance? I have installed video cameras all around the perimeter of our house and record everything onto a VCR. It gives me great peace of mind to know that I won't have to wonder what's going on at home while I'm away.

security system through vcr - security is an issue for many people and in our case our dogs sound an alarm depending on the situation
Our security system is the dogs. We are 1000 feet off the road on property and I have learned their barks for different situations. Someday I might have such a camera system especially in our woods where we do not allow hunting and other trespassers. That would help our case if charges would need to be filed. For now the dogs are my line of defense.

Dogs are great because their hearing is so sensitive and they hear EVERYTHING. It's so good to be able to catch it on tape though! That's indisputable evidence if you present it in court. There are many good, inexpensive video surveillance systems on the market and you can install them yourself, it's not that hard. I installed all my cameras and everything is working really well.

There is a security system that was installed when I moved in. I do not have it hooked up, the flickering lights bothered me. My neighborhood so far is very quiet and nice. Mostly elderly people and no one can find our street in this maze. So I feel safe without the system being hooked up.

That's good, I'm glad you are able to live in a safe, quiet place. Our neighborhood for the most part is quiet as well. Lots of retired folks and many of the homes are summer homes. It does get noisy here in the summer, though!

I have considered this as my neihbour are the worst people I ever met but really don't want to have to install cameras as I would then feel more worried about my little home. I have a big dog who is there when we are to keep us safe and if we are all out then it's just stuff nad canbe replaced.

As long as you are just filming your yard and not your neighbor's you should be OK. I have awful neighbors as well. I have found the neighborsfromhell.com site to be a great comfort and resource for all things neighbor. That's great that you have a big dog, that can be a great crime deterrent.
