I think our government is trying to be the worlds police, not the people. They try to enforce what they believe to be in the best interests of our nation (as all countrys do), however since some in the government want to use force instead of leadership. The people in power right now have a philosophy of greed and destruction which has brought so many problems to the world and our own people. I don't think any other country will bring us down, we are destroying ourselves without any help at all.

I want to add that I don't think Americans fear India. I think most of us like India. I know many Indians who I went to school with and work with, most are American citizens but have family back in India still.

Not that I typically would respond to a question with a question, but in this instance I think it is appropriate.... Why do so many other countries in the world look to the U.S. when they have troubles, disasters, etc.? Why are we the country called upon when there's a tsunami, earthquake, drought, famine, so on and so on? Why is the U.S. so quickly criticized if our response to such a disaster or need is considered too slow?

What countries r u talking about? vietnam, cuba or palestine. would u respond to a disaster in cuba or ecuador? as far as lending out help is concerned, that's just a show to gather public support..... unfortunately some people actually do get fooled by these "shows" of sympathy

Do you anything about America? Have you ever read any history of our country? When I went to school, I was tought a few things about other countries, and world history. It wasn't a lot , but it was enough to make me want to learn more. Do schools in India, Iran, China, Syria, Egypt teach their children about America? Do they teach about how our forefathers liberated us from the tyranny of living under the rulership of a King? Do they teach about how our forefathers fought tooth and nail to free Africans from the captivity of slave owners? My point is, before condemming us, learn something of our history. We are told here that the schools in places like Iran and Syria teach nothing about us, other than Americans are the infidels. They are taught to hate us from the start. Do you think that Americans are happy to die in Iraq? No, they are doing something that they believe in. They are helping the Iraqi people obtain and hold on to a democratic government. Not a government that is controlled by religion. Rather, one that is controlled by the people. Have you ever read our constitution? You should, it will explain to you what America is all about. Also, if you read some world history, you will find that most overseas conflicts that America has been involved in, we became involved in because our friends and allies asked for our help. That would include ww1-ww2-and the first gulf war. Hussein invaded Kuwait and Kuwait asked for our help. Personally, I think that some freedom desiring Iraqi's engaged the US government to intervene in Iraq, but that is just my opinion. As far as being taught a lesson, I think 9-11 did that for us. And god willing, we will never see anything like that again here. I don't think we have to fear China, or India. We have strong economic ties and political ties with both, and no visible signs of tensions with either. But if you see something that tells a different story, please share it.

you are 50-50 right as well as wrong.what happened to america on 11th sep shouldnot be supported, how can you ever say that?we must condemn it.but on the other hand its definitely right that some one will definitely teach them a good lesson.ya it may be india or china.they are fearing india in the way we are developing in every sphere.by next 50 -60years we will surpass them.thats for sure both in power and economy.america hasbeen dicataing us for along time.they think they are the rulers of the world.but not so from now.if they give us a slap i bet we will give them a punch in return thats for sure.

You say Japan, that was not World Policing that was World War, The chinese are to busy trying to copy our way of life to bring war to us, America should fear an Iran with Russian,Chinese Support, but then agian us Americans dont fear anything' we are unmatched in Milatary Technology,

the american economy is highly dependant on war. that gives them a chance to sell their prized weapons at hefty costs. thats why they sent saddam to the gallows. to try to instigate an unrest. that would result in a large sale of their weapons; thus fuelling the american economy. SIMPLE

it really true ..america is trying to be world police...specially in the tenure of bush. in past also it was like that which resulted in vietnam war and at last they withdraw...coz their losses where quite huge compare to their estimation.. same thing happened in afgan and they left the country war torn and went to iraq and same thing will happen there too. at last us will withdraw from iraq as defeated and still say that they r victrious... involving in other activities too much results the detoration of the image of us in the eye of other country and they thing they have enough wealth and equipments and they over estimate themself..and at last us may get back attcked ...coz of too much involvment in other country operation

Great post, shadowwalker. This was all different in a Bi-polar world, when Russia was also a superpower. There was an international checks & balance. My feelings are that when you are considered a superpower (no, this does not mean that you are supreme in every way shape & form) you have an OBLIGATION to stand in when a country calls for help. You are OBLIGATED to "come to the rescue" if there are serious human rights atrocities. There was no reason for 9-11. There was no reason for ambushing thousands of innocent people who made no decision regarding issues in Iraq. If you don't like a government's policies, deal with the government. That's what the American people do. If this were Bush's first term, he would not have a second term. Going in to Iraq was a response, I think, as angry people lashing out against something that we considered to be so offensive, so vile, that it would be difficult to sit and "let it pass" even for the most passive. No matter what the political reasons were, there was an underlying incomprehensible injustice carried out upon the American people, and we naturally went into "defense mode". This is a human reaction, not nationalist, not racist. And, no, we are not "afraid" of India or anyone else. We are AFRAID FOR THE WORLD! Haven't you realized what a nuclear explosion could do to the world? We know it's power already. Do you know how easy it would have been to just turn the middle east into a big glass bowl after 9-11? We didn't. And we can't let it happen by ANY nation. THAT is why we support restriction. That is why we've lessened our armament.

Great comments shadow walker! Throughout America's history, we have always tried to defend the underdog and come to their aid...and many times we were not a bit appreciated! Doesn't mean we're going to stop trying to help and we're not going to stop trying to see that justice is done. There are just a lot of different opinions on how that would best be done...

In the first it's obvious that you didn't do any research before you posted your discussion. That being said. It is the American people that controls what our leaders do. We vote them in and hope for the best. That's all we can do. No president is perfect so attacking Bush is rediculous. I personally don't like him. I didn't like him when he was governor of Texas and I still don't like. But it's my right not to like him. As far as us trying to be world police goes I think you need to review your history. America has always been there when other nations needed us. One thing you seem to be forgetting we were attacked. We had no recourse but to attack them. What would have looked like to the rest of the world if we hadn't retaliated? We'd have looked like a bunch of wimps! Oh, that's right you think it was an act of God. Give me a break! Why is it that people bring God into things when they don't know what they're talking about? And we far from afraid of India. Before you start pointing fingers differentiate between the American people and the government. One other question for you. If America is such a bad place why are so many people trying to get into America??

your correct because America is a large country it self they have power, money, etc... they think they rule the world cause they are a powerfull country. but stuff like the united states can have nuclear weapons and so can developed countries. but Korea and other developing countries are not allowed to have nuclear weapons... etc...

hello mate, first of all i think we should seperate our discussion with God as ,many people have raised this issue, Religion is a personal matter so instead of getting into this idea of religion in each and everything of your life you should first consider the nature of problem because its possible that evern non believers are reading our post so please consider being related to the topic not God, I am personally a religious person and believe in religion but putting a topic like this and attaching it to God could be irritating for non believers or even for some wise believers. Now secondly you asked about America. There could be two cases , if say they are trying to be the world police then they have a right to do coz everybody is given brains and if they utilize their own senses and are able and successful in controling the world then they are deserving for this position. In other case say you might be accusing them to be like that as it is possible that they are not controling the world at all.. As it is explained more in details and with a better prospective my the responders before me so its not necessarily important to write more in this topic for me. Wishing you all Peace and happiness
