Do you rush to the shops for the post-Christmas Sales?

I used to but I don't bother anymore. I'm quite content with the gifts I got for Christmas and don't feel the need to acquire more things. Plus I hate crowds and Christmas Sales crowds are the worst. How about you? Are you a fan of the Christmas sales or not? I would also be interested in hearing from people in India, China and other eastern places - do you have post-Christmas sales? Or perhaps post-Diwali sales? What is the custom where you are?

I haven't made an effort to go out looking for after Christmas specials but I have browsed when I was already in the store (Walmart) for a specific item that I needed. I usually take a day and go to the mall and just browse to see what has been slashed. Bath and Body Works and The Body Shop all have awesome deals.

It's the deals that draw you out to shop, isn't it? If only they had these deals when it wasn't so busy!

No, I buy most of my stuff of the net now. If internet was free to every house, i think alot of stores, cinemas etc would shut down. Anyway, I go in to stores now and again.

This year I did most of my Christmas shopping via the net for the first time - and it was wonderfully stress-free

We had to go into town to change a faulty DVD for the kids and it was so busy and I couldn't breath for the people pushing and being so rude and selfish. I wanted new PJ's but when I went in M&S all the nice sets, and Nighties that where ther last week had gone and had been replaces with grown-up ladies nightwear and silky stuff is not practical with 2 boys. Needless to say, I gave in and came home, people were so busy buying stuff my youngest was getting knocked about because he's only 3 so stupid women cannot see him. Far worse than Christmas shopping.

We do have post-Christmas sales and mostly pre-Diwali sales. I do go for some of these but not all. Some of them are genuine sales while others are not.

Hi! Usually, I do rush out to the after christmas sales. I didn't rush this year, but I did pick up some belated presents at half price! :-) Besides, we really don't need any more candy or toys!

Yes, I usually hit the after christmas sales. I go to Wal-mart, I'm usually there anyway. ;) I like to buy those nice sets of hair burshes. they are something I'll need anyway & by buying them at 50% off, I get a years worth for the price of 1 brush.

Walmart is lucky to have you! I hear their sales are down this year, so I think they ought to cherish customers like you and provide handsome discounts!

If I am at a store all ready I will look to see what they may have. I was at Walgreens on the 26th filling a prescripttion. I picked up some Christmas Candy & an ornament at 1/2 off. I just had a c-section on the 22nd so I definatly will not be roaming the stores looking for deals.

Seems like the post Christmas sales were pre Christmas this year. Some stores had 50% - 70% sales before Christmas. I always liked to buy tree ornaments the day after Christmas when they were usually 50% off. This year was the firt time I ever saw them 50% off the day before Christmas.

Hopefully the trend for discounts before Christmas will continue. It will certainly save everyone a bundle of money!

I heard that retailers were really taking a beating this year ... people apparently weren't spending as much as previous years and also started their shopping later (who do they survey for these things??? I spent as much as always LOL) I did pick up a few last-minute gifts at almost half-price too. Always a nice thing :)

Oh, how I HATE to shop! LOL I get burnt out on shopping just before Christmas arrives... but I admit that I did go out on Boxing Day (Canada here!) only to buy my half-priced gift wrap and a wrap storage bin so that I can put it all away for next year. I refuse to pay full price for anything that is just going to get torn up and thrown away ;) My daughters both got gift cards this year from my ex, so I suppose at some point we'll be shopping the sales... but it'll wait until sometime in January when the frantic shoppers have had their fill!

I used to always shop the next morning, and make a day of it. I have noticed though that there isn't as many deals as there used to be, and it used to be a few of us per store that did this, now it is like black friday. Everyone is getting pushy, and it isn't as enjoyable as it used to be. I also like shopping online now. Even with the shipping I find it more enjoyable, and affordable. Think of saving the time and your gas money.

I agree. I think there arn't really as many true discounts. There are just a few head-line grabbing discounts, designed to get people out to the shops, and the other discounts are much more modest.

Thanks for responding. The phillipines seem to take the same attitude to Christmas as Europe and America

a crowded shop in davao city, philippines - taken inside NCCC mall. it's very crowded for christmas rush.
here in the philippines, there are lots of christmas sales on all malls. even up to 70% off on most items. branded or non branded stuffs. i hate crowds. but i do wanna miss the opportunity to shop for my next years stuffs by buying items on sale. this time, i bought a wardrobe cabinet with 20% off the regular price. clothes up to 50% off, shoes up to 70% off and others. i already bought a lot yesterday.

Sounds like you got some great bargains. Phillipines is Catholic, isn't it, so of course you celebrate Christmas. I wonder if some of the other non-christian nations bother.

I have gone every year since I was probally 12. Yes its always crazy..but I love it. Sometimes you can really find some good deals. People are crazy to spend 400 on a tree when they can get it now for CHEAP. Its just fun, of course I do enjoy to shop..but I love a good deal more. I mainly just stick to the christmas decor and wrapping stuff

I used to be like you - I used to love the Christmas sales. I guess the fact I don't anymore is down to the fact I'm older :-(. I guess tolerance for crowds diminishes as you age!

Yes,there are so many post-Christmas sales in China. But I am not interested in that. Just the same as u,I don't like the crowds. If I wanna buy something, I always choose the uncrowded time , wandering in the emporium without too much noise and crowd. I think shopping should be a kind of relaxation, and don't want the crowd and nosie to spoil it. The post-new year sales is coming, but I am insulated!^_^

Thanks for responding. It's interesting that you have Christmas sales in China. I guess it's proof that Christmas is becoming a secular festival.
• India
29 Dec 06
Hi! Here in India, we normally do not have post festival sales. It is mostly only pre or festive seasons sales. As for me, I would rather keep away from these sales. Under the garb of discount sales, most of the people just try to get rid of junk and anyway the original prices are marked up for the discount.

Thanks for your response. That's very interesting. It seems that India is keeping her own traditions (in contrast to China, which seems to have adopted Christmas sales without adopting any religious aspect!!)

Sometimes I wonder how many people actually find bargains. I think a few do, the rest just end up tired and cross, and perhaps spend money just because they are out.
