Showing latest entries on website

Hey all, I wanted to know if it is possible to somehow set up code on my website to pick up the 4 (or however many) newest headlines from my blog... so that if I update the blog with a new entry, the subject line will automatically update on the external site and link it to the entry. And to be picky -- if this is possible with only certain categories? I've looked through the plugins before but I'm not sure if any of those would help me -- or I might just not know what to look for. Thanks for your help.
