what do the Europeans think of China and Chinese?

Personaly,i think Europeans,especially,the English had too much prejudice on China and chinese. at the middle of the 18th century.a well-known seafarer,George Anson,who came from england,made a defination of chinese ppl's character.He said,"chinese ppl don't have any curiosity,their numbness and asininty have reached an incredible step.At the aspects of deceiving,cheating and madly pursuing money,chinese can make other foreigners feel difficult to follow.i think nobody will feel it goes too far,if i describle their qualities as guile and selffish." Travel in china,published at the beginning of 19th century,draw a conclusion that this nation's quality consists of all these strange elements below: snootiness and scurvy,illusive seriousness and actual frivol,polite and rude.on the surface,they look honest and open,actually they are used to cheat and polt,so that Europeans feel extremely hard to communicate with them and defense them. when come to 1920s,W.Somerset Mangham,an english author,saw such a good english man,he was proud of that he can't speak even a little chinese at all,even though he had been in china for 30 years.However,he was very happy and never felt tried to talk about a music drama,performed in London 20 years ago and actresses in it.In fact,he ever had said that frankly,"i hate the country.i hate the ppl.don't talk to me about chinese things.i never want to see anyting chinese as long as i live." I saw these in a magazine.Mmm... Maybe it has already been out of season.But i can't help to speak it out.i wonder what do the present Europeans think of the current china and chinese.
