YAY....Barry Zito is coming to the SF Giants from accross the bay. I was almost sure that the SF Bay Area was going to lose him but not so. Unfortunately he comes with a huge pricetag. Do you think he is worth $126 million over seven years? I do!!!

The Giants did need to aquire a solid starting pitcher after Jason left. Signing Zito was a good move, but that contract is nuts. Signing a pitcher to a seven year contract is not a good decision. Seven years is much to long. And why would you pay so much for a good pitcher? There is like 10-15 better pitchers in the majors that are better than him, that obviously make much less than him. I also think that Zito shouldn't have been the player to sign the biggest contract at his position. Because of this, pitchers might ask for more money when it comes to making deals in the upcoming years. Hopefully signing Zito was not a bad move for the franchise.

Yep, good point. This new contract will set a new benchmark for salaries and when it comes time for some of the other "better than average" players to resign, they will be asking for more.
