Do you vote for a party or a person or just like that?

Today most countries of the world are democratic, which means that our vote is meant to mean a lot. It is our vote that is supposed to decide who gets the power to rule the country-the country we live in. But despite that does always the best man win? If not, then who is responsible? do we vote and if we do what our the considerations that we base our votes on? I feel that sometimes we just vote without giving it a proper thought. We just feel that ours is just one vote in a million, but then a million is made of many ones.
