whats up with the photos

We just started 2 disussions and it wouldn't let us put a photo on either one of them. It had the add image link, we clicked it and went through the usually steps but kept getting an error when uploading. Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone know why its happening?
We know that we can't put images on responses till get to 500 but thought we could still put images in our disucssions we start, am I wrong

I have seen people under 500 points post pictures in their own discussions. This has happened to me before, but it was because the picture wasn't a jpeg or whatever else its supposed to be.
