I think that we go to church not because we listen to the teachings of the priest, but to be with God. We are there because we want to visit God in his house. So, it's not the priest that we are listening to. It's the moment of silence with God. Priests are still human.

We Christians follow the Holy Bible and it is commanded there that we should not forsake the assembly. The assembly takes place every Sunday - that is when we have our worship services. It is not the teachings of men which we listen to. It is the teaching of God, all laid down in the Holy Bible.

Well, the teachings given by priests are always valuable. Actually the teachings they give are not made by them. They were made by God. And since god wants good for all of us, definitely, you should follow the teachings. Whatever the priests do should not matter.
