I've only just come across this discussion, after a year, so things have changed a bit, for Leeds United.
I see you are actually from Leeds, and I'm a "Southern Softie" Supporter. I've followed Leeds for years, through their good times and bad, and the past few years have been their worst ever. There are lots of politics going on in the Club which are dragging it down, and personally, I don't think anything else will work but for the Supporters to form a consortium and get the love back into the game, the support back into the team, and get rid of the money-orientated businessmen who control their future. There is a lot of fervor amongst Leeds fans and a consortium is the only way I can see working.
Ken Bates is in it mainly for himself, and there is a property developer, namely Melvyn Levi, who is hell-bent on obtaining Elland Road ground and the surrounding waste land, so that he can get Leeds United out, demolish the stadium, and build a retail park on the land. He is your main spoke in the works, and looking at the way things have happened over the past few years, I honestly believe he is playing a great part in Leeds' downfall. The few instances that stand out are, the sacking of one of the best managers the club has ever had, in David O'Leary, and selling off the players because of a misdemeanor by the Board, when they had to start selling off their best players. When Alan Smith went to Manchester United, the rot set in. Viduka went, Fowler, and the team had to more or less be reformed. Then, because they couldn't get them down any other way, at the end of the 2006/2007, six points were deducted from Leeds total score for the season, then as if that wasn't enough, with Leeds now down into Division One, a decision was reached to deduct a further 15 points at the beginning of the 2007/2008. Things were looking dire for Leeds, and then, along came Saint Dennis. They couldn't stop winning and quickly climbed to third place in Div One. Oh, but this was not on, with somebody, and one by one, the management mysteriously drifted off to other clubs. They brought in Gary McAllister, but there was already unrest at the departure of the successful coaching and managerial team. So, a few games had already been lost or drawn, before Gary arrived back at Elland Road. Now, they seem to be dejected, and have slipped back down to eighth place in the league, which is not too far behind, but they're going to need to pull something out of the fire, to gain promotion.
I hope they will do it this year, but hopes have been dashed again... so, we just have to either go along with what's happening, still giving our staunch support to the team we love, or we have to make a stand against the "dirty dealings" which are going on up there.
Leeds United WILL be back, but I'm not sure when. I'm beginning to think the whole country is against us, both in the football world and outside it!
Brightest Blessings.
