Does anyone belong to Curves? What is it like? Do you have a "ballpark figure" on what it costs? I am going to have a $250 credit from my insurance company to use for a gym membership this year. I prefer a facility for just women, and there is a Curves right around the corner from me. I just can't find any idea of the costs of membership online. Thank you!

I joined Curves a few years ago. I hate to be a nay sayer but I found it quite boring. Sure there were big success stories everywhere (they have them on the walls) but I didn't see any difference in the women that were there. They have very limited hours.. I need a gym that is open all day and all night- I think it was like 8-12 and then again at 4-8. It was odd.. I needed a place where I could go after my daughter went to bed- 8.. It wasn't only the time that bothered me-- It was the whole workout- The machines are resistance machines- No treadmills or weight machines, nothing to get your heart rate up.. I just wasn't impressed. I went for about 6 months off and on when I could- finally I just quit going and went to the local gym that was open 24/7. Here they had weights, treadmills, elipticals, bikes.. trainers! It was great! The problem was when I signed up you had to pay for a full year in advance or have them take it out of your checking account each month- but it was for a year- I hope you have better luck than me.

Thanks for this information. I think that I might have a problem there, also. I went the other day after I posted and read the responses. I was all pumped up to join and get going. I showed up at 2:15pm and it was closed! The hours are very limited, which wouldn't be a problem on days when I work, but what about days off? And I worry that it would be very crowded at 5 pm after work. Another thing is that they are only open for 3 hours on saturday morning and not at all on sunday. I haven't gone back; I'll stop in this week to check it out, but the negatives are starting to concern me.

I joined last year, and went pretty regularly for a while, but our local Curves has very limited hours. I like to work out later at night, like 8:00 p.m., but they close at 8:00. So I was always rushing around to get there before they closed. I love the whole concept and I loved moving from machine to machine because you got a full body workout. But, like I wrote, I didn't like the hours they were open.

I know a lot of people who like to work out after they have dinner and get kids settled with homework and baths, etc. I would never leave the house to go out at that time, I know it! Especially in the winter. I'll have to go right on my way home from work, or else I'll never get there.

When I joined 3 years ago it was a $180 start up fee and $35 a month after that. So it probably has went up a little bit. Call them and ask them if there are any deals coming up

Thank you! That sounds very reasonable. I was looking for something that would use my insurance credit first, just to see if I would stick with it. I'll give them a call this afternoon.

There are certain times a year when Curves runs a special where they will waive the sign-up fee or offer at a reduced rate. My checking account is debited for about $30 each month. Some Curves will let you sign up for 3 or 6 months instead of the full year. Have you visited Curves? They usually offer a week free for those interested in checking them out.

Thanks for the info! I haven't stopped in yet. You know how it is trying to get going on something like this. I'm hoping that once I get started I will enjoy it and keep going. I'm going to take your advice and stop in this week- they might be having a special because of the New Year. $30 for a month is very reasonable, even if my insurance didn't pay it! How do you enjoy the place? I want to go somewhere where it feels "comfortable", if that makes any sense. I don't want to feel out of place surrounded by a bunch of 105 pound 18 year olds!

I just joined Curves last week. Right now they are running a special - 30/30.. 30% of the joiners fee (usually $150 now $100).. and 10% (?) off the monthly fee (usually $50 now $40)plus 30 days free. I will get $20 credit from my insurance every month I go 12 times.. so it will be $20 a month for me. Good Luck.. I have officially worked out 3 times and have enjoyed it and am feeling it!

Thanks for the response- I AM going there today, in fact I'm going to finish this post and then get over there to sign up. I just found out that I won't be starting my new job until 3/6, so I'm going to get a good start on this before I'm back into the work routine again. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying it. I'm going to request to add you as a friend so we can compare "pain".

My co-worker is a member but she's left for the day, othwise I'd ask her for you. I do know she enjoys it and it's been working. She's lost 8 inches already!

Thanks! That sounds really encouraging! I'm kind of looking forward to starting- you know how it is after New Year's. I'm actually sick of overeating!
