Recently, when i was abroad, i met this 12 year old boy in a train. Cute, fair, bubbly, just like any other 12 year-old. I was getting bored, so i tried to cook up some conversation with him. So i started "where are u from?". He answered in a peculiar tone "Afganistan" I sudden silence swept through me. The boy said in different kind of accent "will u talk to me still?" I said "ofcourse". we discussed about his country, his people, their food, his family, how the war had ruined everything etc.... He had fled his country, after 7/11, and was staying with his uncle. i noticed a pair of crutches lying near him, never in my wildest dreams could i imagine they were his. he was sitting with his legs folded up. After about an hour his uncle came from some other boogie, and told him that they had to get down on the next station so he should get ready.
he picked up those crutches and stood before, i felt as if an epitome of misery, innocence killed, was standing before me.
He had no legs, just then seeing the tears welling in my eyes, his uncle said "Landmine" and they left me.
Why was that bubbly boy, paying the price for a crime he never commited? what was his fault? was he born in the wrong country?
