FOUND: Cat with its head jammed into a tin can!

My husband rang me this morning and said he had found a cat with a tin can jammed onto it's head. We really love animals (we have two dogs and three other cats all rescued!). Anyway, he found the cat wondering aimlessly across and main road (I have no idea how it was not knocked down). He rang me and I got in contact with the local vet that we always go to, while he was driving the cat. He said there was a hole cut into the end of the can where the cats nose was pressed up to. I was totally horrafied and really upset. He got to the vet and they managed to pull it's head out. The poor thing has a badly scratched nose and a few little cuts around it's neck. It is so scared right now, so we are keeping it in our shead for the moment because we don't want our animals to go near it at the moment and to give it a rest. It was also starving hungrey and thirsty. God only knows how long it had been left like that. What's getting me is really, who would do this to a little cute black cat? The vet was saying it looked like hole was bashed in before it was placed on the cats head because it was like hammered from the inside. Was it some stoned teenagers playing a sick joke? Or was it a previous owner trying to get rid of it? Either way, a really cruel, sick thing to do, any time of year, espically during the christmas holidays. I hope what goes around comes around for that person.

Oh my God. I also, can not believe what kind of sick and cruel people would do such a thing. And your right, around Christmas is the WORST time to do that. I give you credit for taking care of the poor thing. We need more people like you in this world of uncaring, selfish individuals.

I think this is very, very sick. I think that you should notify the authorities. I know a guy who keeps wrenches in his car to throw at stray cats that go into his yard, but I doubt even he would be able to jam a cats head into a can. That's sick.

I would love to see someone try this with a tiger or lion. good call on your husband though.. I mean I personally love cats and man I'm sorry but even the thought of what happened to the cat is sickening.

Thanks for feeling like that, maddening as it is in all I'm glad that people out there are passionate about animals. The cat is still pretty scared. We still have it in the shead (don't yet know if it's male or female, just want to give it some space right now to let it settle down). We rang the local ISPCA and they told us they are full up after the christmas. But they said they will contact the vet that we brought it to and the ISPCA will pay for it to be nutered if we keep it. So yes it will be staying with us. We live in the countryside so it should be safe if it stays here, but I'm keeping it in the shead for the moment because i don't want our other animals to frighten it and also I'm seven months pregnant so I don't want to catch anything bad if it has anything! But it's a lovely black cat with huge green eyes! When we get it all sorted out here I will post up a picture for all to see. Thanks for the concern and comments, keep loving the animals! ;0)

I can't even begin to imagine what kind of thoughts go on it someones head when they think that premeditatively jamming a cats head into a tin can and letting it roam the streets is something they should do! I can only be thankful that people like you and your husband are around to lend a hand to these animals in need; many people are not as caring.

OMG! How mean!!! Someone once beat and then stuffed my cat into a mailbox and threw her in a ditch, while she was pregnant! THank god we found her, although now I wonder how we did, it was not too close to our house, she had been gone for days and I just wouldn't give up finding her. THank god I did. She was in really bad shape, but I nursed her back to health and she had healthy kittens! I just don't understand why people get their "kicks" from hurting poor defensless animals!?! There needs to be stiffer punishments for animal cruelty! Great Post! Hope the kitty gets better!

your cat sounds like it went through a lot. The cat will stay with us hopefully and it will be getting nutered next week. Thanks for your comments. Glad to know there are a lot of passionate animal lovers out there! Keep it up everyone. We have to look after them because if we don't who else will?

Reading this makes me sick to my stomach! Thank God that there are people like you & your husband (and I have to say that I am the same way) in the world!!! There are some really, really sick and disturbed people out there. Anyone who would ever hurt an animal is a criminal, as far as I'm concerned. And you're right- let's pray that what goes around comes around! At least it sounds as if this little guy will now have a safe, loving home with his new family!

This is outrageous..How could somebody possibly think of doing something so cruel like this. I bet it might have been done by some teens for that 1 minute of fun..This is really upsetting . It is very good on your part to rescue the cat and give it shelter at your shed. Animal Lovers are rare to find these days. I myself am not an animal lover but such acts really hurt.If people are found mistrating an animal, a heavy fine should be imposed on them if not imprisonment.

This is just horrible and sad. Thank you for people like you (and your husband) in this World. Its sounds like a deviant plan by someone to torture the poor cat, it not possibly have happened as an accident. Good luck with the traumatised cat, hope he recovers completely!
