I have just read that Saddam Hussain is believed to have been hung in the past hour. It makes me sick that someone deliberately killed another human in the name of the law. How is the world a better place now he is gone? He should have been kept in prison for the term of his natural life.

Here's how I see it... who the hell are we to put a price on someones head regardless of their acts. that just makes us as bad as him, and it is our moral obligation to show to everyone else that we are not like that. All governments go on about politics and third world countries, but there are no debates really as to what types of punishment should be available. If it was me that was in charge, of giving out any punishment I would have said okay you killed these many people, NOW FIRST OF ALL... a public apology, then I would have made him live out the rest of his life in a cell. preferably with some big hefty butch guy just to keep him company ;) lol but no the world is not a better place, because if you think about it, to some of his people he has been made a martyr.

I agree with you 100% We drag ourselves down to his level by killing him. I am not in USA but I would never live in a country that had capital punishment.

What do you mean he would not have lasted long, someone would have killed him? Do you mean in jail?

It is not an execution. It is a political murder,an assassination. The reason for all this? Bush says Saddam killed 148 people in one go.So to avenge 148 lives,he launches a seige killing over 53,000 Iraqi civilians and 2,500 Americans. This is not the true reason. The real reason is to increase his chances in office. In short, the title of this discussion should be "Hussain Assassinated!"

Hug a tree in his name!!! Why should the citizens of the world feel unsafe because a man of such power is able to run his terror regime from a cell somewhere. Life in prison only means he can't run his terror openly. He was not a man to be dealt with lightly. His power was world wide not just a problem in the middle east. He has people everywhere just waiting for his command to do something stupid. The man is not unlike Hitler or any other Hellbent on destroying anyone who doesn't think the way he does.

If they hadn't executed him there wouldhave attempt upon attempt to free him, by those who benefitted from his regime. The risk of making a martyr of him may have been short circuited by his lengthy trial. The secrecy surrounding the timeof his execution was probably best to avoid his supporters mounting protests. Now...all we have to worry about is who will take his place in the hearts and minds of his supporters.

exactly my view, very good post! governments should not be able to kill people, this makes it 'ok' to kill, it should never be the case. and im not an avengeful person, but even if i was i dont think killing someone is punishment.
