If you had a million dollars and had to give it away who would you give it to?

Would you give it to family, friends, a non-profit, or walk around the streets and give to the poor? If you had a million dollars who would you give it to?

I would give it to my mom...I am a single mother and she has done so much to help me get to where I am. She's the only one I would feel right giving it to.

That's a beautiful thought. Of course, you would then no doubt inherit it when she passes, right?

I would give the money to my family, non-profit organizations, small hospitals that need new medical appliances.

Just curious - why new medical appliances specifically?

If I can keep it, I will keep it for me and my hubby. I will give out some to family members, put some back in bank, and I definetly give the money to the medical facilities whom helped our daughter. Maybe they can use the money to help other children, look for the cure, things like that.

The one place I would have no qualms about donating to are the various kidney organizations that have helped do research into my son's disease. NephCure.org would get a chunk, as would The National Kidney Foundation. We just did a walk for them this summer and my eight year old son who couldn't walk earlier in the year managed to complete three miles - an no one was going to stop him, because it was for people who help kids with kidney problems!

I would have to give it to my parents and let them do what they will with it. They've given me and my siblings so much over the years.

Again, nice, but if you gave it to your parents, in the event they passed on you would no doubt inherit part of it. So, the altruistic nature of the gift gets lost.

I love this question! First, I hope I don't have to give it all to one person/group. I would love to open a cooperative housing unit or second-stage housing facility for people in need; abused women, families in need, homeless people, disabled people...the list goes on. Then I would donate a large portion to my local animal shelter. Next, I would establish a trust fund (obviously I'd have to find someone to give the $ to and manage it) that helps people in need achieve higher-education goals, with an emphasis on any discipline that serves to better the lives of others or preserve the planet.

I still can't figure out how to select best response, but yours is it!

Mmmm...that's a tough question, since there are so many organizations I would love to donate to. To make a short list: 1. NIH - to fund research for congenital heart defects 2. Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, VA, a not-for-profit hospital that cares for children with any and every health condition or disease, whether their parents have money or insurance to pay for their care 3. March of Dimes to fund research and treatment for premature babies
