According to my opinion cow slaughter should not be allowed in India. Is it the fault of the cows if they are not fed properly, if they are not provided shelter, if they are not given medicine when they are ill or injured? Instead of killing cows, man who commits this heinous sin against the cow deserves punishment. The right thing to do is to provide the necessary amenities to the cows instead of slaughtering them. Man is by nature greedy. If you allow him to slaughter the cow he will almost exhaust the species; because beef is cheaper than other types of meat. Man has been seen slaughtering even calves, because he finds veal more tender and tasteful than beef. Some may put forward the argument that protein is very necessary for the health of man and that he gets it from meat. There are other meats like that of, pigs, fish and goats. Moreover, pulses and beans are quite rich in protein. Why unnecessarily kill the cow? Besides, India is a hot country. In hot climates vegetarian food is healthier than meat. Why not use cows to produce more vegetables? It will save the cow from slaughter and give better health to men. The cow can stand the heat better than the horse or the buffalo. Oxen are, therefore, of greater service in India far ploughing the fields than other animals. Moreover, buffaloes and horses are dearer. The. Indian farmer is poor and cannot afford expensive cattle. Besides, cows require less fodder than cattle of other kinds. By all means we should improve their breed but should not resort to slaughtering them. I am an Indian so it is good for me to advice you.

I am Indian so I would like to tell that cow slaughter should be allowed in India. The cow in this context has special significance. In the first place for the high food va1ue of its milk for children which is nearly as good as mother's milk for infants. No diet is as beneficial and nourishing for the child as cow's milk. Secondly, bulls are used for ploughing the fields; drawing the carts and for taking water out of the well for irrigational purposes. In view of these uses it is only logical to prohibit cow slaughter in our country. To allow it will be an act of vandalism which we cannot afford. On account of their great utility as shown, above, the cow has come to acquire a sanctity in the mind of, the Hindus which is a rare phenomenon and baffling to the rational mind of the Western people. It has become a deep-rooted religious sentiment with the Hindus who form the vast majority of our nation. The cow is often spoken of as Gau Mata (mother cow) and people actually worship, it. To respect this strong religious sentiment attached to the cow, it is not advisable to say that cow-slaughter should be allowed in India. As against this in countries like Australia, Holland; the U. K. or the U. S. A. we find that cow yield milk to the extent of forty to fifty pounds daily. Why? Only on account of the fact that they are better looked after and better bred. They are fed properly and kept in absolutely clean places. The question for consideration is who treats the cows as Matas or mothers? We or the Australians? The answer is obvious. Therefore, if we cannot feed the cows; why keep them? The sooner we do away with them, the better. Cow slaughter provides us with, one of the most rational methods of dealing with the problem. It has been said that if you do not eat cattle, cattle will eat you up. Unless the useless cattle are done away with; they shall deprive us of most of our own food. The cattle will eat and men will starve. Therefore in order to save valuable food for men, it is necessary that useless cattle be slaughtered. Rather if we give up our ancient prejudice against beef eating our gain will be doubled. We shall save the food which is to be served to cattle. It would be beneficial for all of us.

In most butchers in the western societies animals are killed for food. There is a ritual done b4 everyone is slaughtered because some religions won't eat the meat without this ritual.
