In this tech-savvy age of chat friends, e pals etc.. do you ever write any letters ? be it to a penpal, faraway aunt or even a love letter for u'r bf/gf ??? I used to be sooo into letter writing - used to write tons of letters to my friends/penpals..but now since past few years.. writing letters just is not my thing. i feel too lazy. but boy do i love GETTING letters :) it's such a nice feeling to see a letter in u'r name, lying on the doorstep.. now that is something far better than a 100 emails ! what do you think ?

I DO still write letters, although not nearly as much as I used to. Growing up, I had penpals from all over the world and I found it fascinating to receive their letters and postcards. I learned about different cultures and lifestyles and they sent me little gifts, like bookmarks and examples of their currency, and I sent them the same. It was a really great activity. When my husband was in the Navy (before we were married), we were able to email each other but I still sent him handwritten letters and I mailed him care packages (with candy and snacks, books that he wanted, clothing, etc.) He said it felt really awful when they would have "mail call" and he never got anything. It was always like that, until he met me. I thought it was very much worth a little bit of effort on my part to do something nice for him and to make him happy. I took my kids shopping with me once to make up a gift box to put in the mail -- they chose things like Pez dispensers and granola bars! LOL They were young. He was VERY touched by it, though. Now that we're married, I still write him letters sometime... to tell him things I'm having trouble saying out loud or just to remind him that I love him. I still send letters to elderly relatives who don't have access to computers and email. I also include a note if I am mailing family photos to relatives. It's frustrating though because I feel as you do... I love GETTING mail! It's so much fun to get a letter and to read someone's thoughts in their own handwriting. I had one friend in particular that said how much she loved to get my letters because I spent time to write several pages. But, IF I got a letter back from her, it was never more than a single page, sometimes only a paragraph. Many times, she just didn't answer at all. I think, if someone takes the time to do something nice for you, it's worth the effort to reciprocate.

yea,i still write letters bcoz the person which looks the letter can feel the feeling of mine which i felt here during writing. it directly focuses on the way of approach which u can express in ur own language and form.

I have to admit that I don't. I never really wrote letters to begin with, but I did write a few. These days, however, I'm not a letter writer. If I can't send an e-mail or an e-card, I don't send anything. The only exceptions to this is that I still send birthday cards and Christmas cards. I don't send letters with them, but I at least sign them.

I still do but only if necessary. My last letter I made was a promisory note addressed to my teacher. I don't really like writing letters but if it's needed then why not? I guess letters are still important in some ways.

Letters do seem to be becoming a thing of the past, was is incredible sad as there is nothing better than recieving a letter! I still write a few but no where near as many as a did a few years ago. E-mails have taken over not only from letters but also phone and even actual face to face communication. Where i used to work people (including myself!) used to literally e-mail a person a couple of desks away instead of speaking to them. At first a scorned upon this but after a month or two i wouldn't take anything seriously unless it was in an e-mail.

As far as I am considered, there are people still using Snail mail,or the common postal service. This is because,In many parts of world, especially in the developing world, leave e-mail,even computers are not that common. It is only the youth tht uses the e-mails and other stuff. And,more important, many important documents should be send only in postal service, especially if they are important. This is because there are many phissing and other spam sites that can access your important mails. So,I think that the age of postal service is still not over!!

ya, I agree with u, emails are essential part of our today's life because of the speedy results. but, phissing and spam risk is always there with that. And its diffirent feeling to get somebody's letter or a card in hand and to read those things on a computer. definately reading and keeping those letters or cards for a memory, i like that. But , postal services are bit slow ...

Yes I often write letters, to my friends a lot of them do not own or have any idea how to use a computer, so I write to them, also with some of my family members I still write to them as I find that sometimes it is more personal to write to them, and I feel great when they reply to my letters.

i do find handwritten mails better than emails. they are more personal since i know the person who had written it put effort in writing it and going to a post office to send it. i have a boyfriend who is away from me. we do exchange emails and we do chat. he calls me, too. but we also exchange handwritten mails. sounds funny to some but we love to send true letters. we receive more satisfaction when reading handwritten mails than just emails. and yes, in this e-age, my boyfriend and i still write snail mails.

not really, because my postal service is so poor, that the letter never get delivered to where it should be, and even if it reaches there, then it wasn't in time its better to call the person you want to contact than to write a letter

No I don't but I haven't written a letter in 10 years lol. I have only been on the Computer 2 1/2 years now. But when I was a Site Manager 12 years ago I was still doing all the Paperwork by Hand lol. Now I think it is faster to write an E-Mail and also the Postal Service is not that reliable anymore either. So I just send an E-Mail now.

Yes! That used to be thrill to find a letter lying on the door step! There used top be moments of suspense then followed by anxiety and then feeling of pleasure. We used to be taught letter writing in our school and at that time our teacher always used to tell us letter writing is an art, which at that time I never could understand. But as I grew older I realised how true he ws! There are few people who can write letters in a manner that they can present the events infront of you as if you are watching a TV. Receiving Official letters like Application form for College admission or A letter for attending an interview or a letter from the editor that your article has been selected for publication etc used to have a very different kind of thrill which is very difficult to expalin in words. With the change of times, the Cell phone or Mobile phone has almost has repalced the letters and if some thing was left it has been replaced by E- Mail. Though these things are very useful, comfortable, time saving and very practical but they really lack the touch of affection and intimacy!

BY writing emails etc. one can never get the charm which you get by writing letters on those stylish letter heads stationery by your hand and then sedning it to your loved ones and then waiting for the reply desperately can never. I still write those at times and the good I feel and the happiness I get when I receive the reply is not in getting replies to those emails. I think try it again for sometime by leaving the emails option and you will realise it really have a charm in it.
