How many strings are on a guitar?

well there are 6 strings on normal guitar,and 4 on normal bass,but there are some times 7 strings and also 8 strings,and some time also 12 strings on guitar,but also 5, and 6 and 8 on bass guitar,all these have different sound,but if u will play with more than 6 strings,it feels good,and u enjoy in playing with more strings,!
