Should authorities publish a list of pedophiles living in your area, so that people living nearby such a person can take adequate precaution to safeguard their children? Do you think that publishing such a list breaks privacy rights of the individual?

In the US there is a national database where you can look up in your area for convicted s*x offenders and what type of crime they were convicted for. I looked in it one time. There were many men listed in my city. Pictures and everything. I don't think it is something that a lot of people think about on a daily basis, but it is a resource that is there if you want to use it. Statistics show that people who are convicted of such crimes usually repeat over and over...it would be interesting to know if any of them actually quit after being caught.

Do you think that such national database can lead people to be aggressive or unfriendly towards such people? What if it was a one off mistake? What if there is an error in this database? Do you think that such database is helpful to feel more safer?

Paedophilles should not be released into the community. It is established that all convicted paedophilles experience the desire to repeat their offences. They do not get "cured", and are never safe to have living amongst normal people. Never, never, never. Children deserve priority consideration as far as human rights are concerned. Keep paedophilles under secure conditions, never in the community.

They do it where I live. I think it is a great idea. Who cares about their privacy rights of that individual? That was lost when they decided to violate innocent children and ruin their lives forever.

Publishing a list of pedophiles I think is unlawful. How can we prove that such a person is a pedophile. We might be charged with libel or other offenses. To safeguard children, just teach them what to do, who to avoid, guard them I mean keep an eye on them often, take care of them well and there are many things we can do but not to interfer with the privacy and rights of other people. It's very difficult just to accuse a person without valid grounds.

The decision between making public a list of pedophiles and the right of protecting children is a very fine line. I am totally in favour of protecting innocent children. However on the other hand I am contrary that such list being published to the whole public. What if a mistake is done? Justice is done by human beings. And humans do make mistakes. What if an innocent do end up in such a list? What are the consequences for him/her and his family? In my opinion, such list should be made known only the those who keep public order such as the police in order to keep a close eye on these people. But to make a list of pedophiles public is like enciting public to hit at these people when the first occassion turns up.

Pedophiles should be sentenced to life in prison, they should'nt be given parole because they are mentally sick. I loathe these kind of people, they exploit children and rob their childhood.

i think they do this already i'm not sure if they do it when a new family/person moves into the area. but i know that when a pedophile moves into the area that all the neighbors on that block has to know about it. at least in my state. i think they should take precautions for their children and i think a list would be a great way to do that.
