Gin, history and social acceptance

Gin, its funny stuff isnt it, when you think what a massive social problem it was in the last couple of hundred years, with it being regarded as a cheap and dangerous oblivion for the masses, and now its regarded as an oh so British end of the working day drink.
I must confess I adore gin, a good quality gin with lots of tonic is one of my favourite alcoholic beverages, but I do find it interesting to look back at its history, especially the Dutch connection, and how it has been viewed through time.

Can you say Martini anyone. I love the stuff. It has become my favorite drink. Grapefruit being the best.

I don't think I've ever had a grapefruit martini, but I like the sound of it!
