Should Big Beautiful Women Avoid the Beach?

United States
December 30, 2006 6:39pm CST
It gets my dander up when I hear women who are BBW's say that they would never put on a swimsuit and go to the beach or a lake. Why? I ask these questions to those who state this: Do you like to go to the beach or lake? Do you like to swim? Do you like to lay in the sun? I love to do all of these. I am a BBW. I wear a swimsuit. I go swimming. I love to go to the beach. It is one of my favorite places to be in the summertime. Why should I have to dress in shorts and a tank top. I want to wear a swimsuit. Why deny myself simple pleasures. Life is short. Enjoy each day. There are many men who like to view BBW's in swimwear. If all they have to look at are thin women all day, you are denying them eye candy. Put on that swimsuit, lay in the sun, have fun and ENJOY LIFE!

BBWs should most definitely go to the beach and wear swimsuits! People need to start realizing that beauty is about more than weight. Weight has nothing to do with how attractive a woman is. It's her confidence and her attitude and how she carries herself. That is what makes a woman beautiful. Curves are gorgeous. I love women with curves. That classic, Botticellian beauty of round hips and round stomachs and round thighs... Skinny doesn't mean sexy.

Very well put! I am a BBW and I try to enjoy all the things other women do. I have come to realize over the last few years just how many men there are that truly enjoy and even prefer the sight of a BBW to that of a "skinny" woman. Men have become more open about how they really feel about larger women and I think its great!! Life is so short...lets all enjoy it to the fullest!!!

I cannot speak for others, only myself. I was raised to be very conservative, and my mother harped on weight my whole life. I have always been thin, until around 50. Now my husband says that I have a normal healthy body. I am not over weight at all. But, I am embarrased to wear a swim suit because I am not skinny. So, maybe brainwashing, vanity or whatever, is the reason heavy women do not want to wear one. Maybe they were made fun of when they were younger, and are ashamed of themselves. Everyone has a different reason. Maybe they are insecure. I am glad that you are happy with yourself, as it should be. I wish I could be like you.

Thank you for the compliment. But, brainwashing and hangups make it hard. Do the glasses really help? Well, we don't even have water around here though? :)

Many of my clients who were my mastectomy patients would not don a bathing suit and or go swimming. After some coaxing on my part they are gleefully sporting a suit and enjoying themselves for the first time in years. You are a beautiful woman Margieanne. Put on that suit girlfriend and march proudly onto that beach. Wear sunglasses, this helps. It really does.

I live 1/2 mile from the beach and I will put on my bathing suit and style down the beach, chubby legs and all. Who cares what people think. I'm not there for them, I'm there to enjoy the water and the sun. I wear my one piece to the beach. My friend has a pool in her back yard and there I wear a 2 piece. I really truly could give a rats behind about what poeple think about me and my chub!! LOL

Thank you, you made me smile with your comments. I have been considering a two piece suit. Why not. I will cover up more skin than most thin people do.

I am a rather big woman too. I will go to the beach in a swimsuit. I don't care what others think of me. I was not put on this earth to impress anyone. Also, I had all my teeth removed at a young age due to a bad infection and I have dentures but I hate they way they fit so I don't wear them. So I will go to the beach or anywhere else in clothes that I like to wear and no teeth.lol.

You go girl! I think you should enjoy the beach as much as you want and deserve. Some people are just not comfortable with who they are, and they depend on other people's opinions to give them self esteem. You're definitely not one of them, and good for you! You should encourage other BBWs to love themselves for who they are.

That is why I posted this discussion. The people that want to bring others down, like the person above you, really don't matter. It is all about how you feel about it. I feel good. I want to live while I am alive.

There is nothing wrong with big women or big men going to the beach. The beach is free for anyone of any size or age to go too. There are a lot of people that love bigger and beautiful women as well as men. You should do whatever you want to do or makes you happy. Do not worry about what other people think. Everyone should go to the beach and have a good time and not judge people by their height, weight, skin color, hair style or anything else.

I am a BBW and my husband wouldent have it any other way. I will put on a bathingsuit and go to the local lake to spend time with my husband and kids. I love to swim and it is a perfect opportunity to teach my kids how to swim. I agree with you. Dont totally cover up but then dont reveal too much either. Leave something to the imagination.

I was watching a show on how to find a swimsuit one day... the hottest woman there was the one who said she could never put on a swimsuit and looked horrible. She just blew everyone out of the water with how hot she was in the suit they found for her. It all depends what you wear. A string bikini isn't going to look good on most people. But there are nice sexy suits in all sizes!

BBW on the beach - BBW on the beach
Absolutely not! Everyone should be able to enjoy themselves on the beach, the hell what the people will say, you're not doing anything bad to them. There are plus size swimsuits on the market now specially made for BBW like you. So continue what you're doing, wear a swimsuit, go to the beach, swim at the sea, get a wonderful tan and enjoy life.

It does not matter how big you are, everyone deserves to enjoy the beautiful beach, and cool water, not just the little skinny people.

Ha! That's good. I'm not a bbw, but if i were i would be out there too. The way I look at it, if a man can walk around in a speedo, a woman no matter her size should be allowed to wear a swimsuit!

what I like in going to the beach in walking in the sand barefooted with water touching my feet. I like the look of the calm sea and be there to think and relax and unwind. Read a book and have a quiet moment.

Well purely from the point of view that a BBW women in a swim suit offers from a distance is such passionate that the thinny figure just cant match . Some may have their views on BBW that they lok bulky, but the beach is a place where you have minimal of clothes on and a lot of skin for the sun so the more your bulk is the more you glow under the sun and in water too. I surely like BBW on the beach and only in swim suit. They are the ppl to watch on the beach and admire, while soaking all the energy of the sun.

By all means, go to the beach and flaunt what you have! I think that more people should realize that there is more to a person than what they look like and how much they weigh. We spend so much time and energy here talking about how we all need to be open-minded about race, religion, culture, skin color, and sexuality... It is often overlooked that heavy people are very often discriminated against. They are ridiculed and called names, and are made to feel less than human because of how much they weigh. How silly is that? If a heavy woman is comfortable in a bathing suit, then she should wear it proudly and have fun. You're right, life is too short to hide because other people don't like the way you look. What matters most is what's inside.

I don't think anyone should avoid going to the beach in swimwear as long as they're comfortable with it. Humans come in all different shapes, sizes, colors. And there's just as many different personalities. So we should enjoy the things we like.

There is no body to big or small that should avoid donning a swimsuit and enjoy the beach
