Drinking: Do you do it? Do you not? How Much? And when did you start?

I'm 25 years old, and so far the only person I've meet who has never had a drink. I mean I've had a little too much Nyquil once but that doesn't really count! I plan to have my first drink at my wedding, but promised myself that I will NEVER have more than 2 drinks at any occasion. I don't understand getting "drunk" and never will. And I guarantee I will NEVER take a shot because those make no sense to me at all. So for everyone on mylot, do you drink? and if you do, do you drink a lot and often or just once in awhile? Finally, at what age did you start drinking? And if you are someone or you know someone like me who hasn't drank yet, then why haven't you? My reason for not drinking started because it was just easier than having to talk to my parents about safe drinking habits, then I eventually was proud of how long I went without it so I kept it up even when it didn't matter much anymore! Now I find myself in the mood to have a drink or two once in awhile so I'm ending the fast in May:)

I'm 54 now and started drinking when I was 15. I quit at the age of 33, as I realized I was wasting my life away, sleeping off hangovers. I do have a drink maybe 2 times a year, but the most I've drank at one time is 2 frozen margaritas. I don't like that terrible hangover feeling and not being in touch with exactly what's going on around me. Stick to your promise and you'll be O.K.

Yeah I never understood how someone could have a horrible hangover, than get wasted again a week later! That's the main reason I will never get wasted/drunk because everyone I've seen around me who can't even function the next day. I promise to stick to my promise :) Some people try to say "what if you can have more than 2 drinks and still be ok" and I say "I guess I'll never know b/c I'm never having more than 2!" Drinkers usually don't understand a non-drinker so I don't try to explain it any further.

I might be drinking tonight, but not to the point where I will get drunk, see you can get tipsy, which is different from getting drunk, getting tipsy is when you drink enough that you act crazy, and do funny things but you are in control enogh not to do anything supid, see my friends drink, but at the same time they know how to handle themselves.

Yeah drinking to the point of silliness is what a lot of my friends do to. I don't plan to even go that far though, and only have one or two to just relax. That's it! I am already quite silly, I don't need much help :)

Hi, I started to drink from age of 24. now I am 28 years old. But I drink only occassionly. I think that at the time of the drinking I know my limits therefore I have not overdrunk. I drink as much as I manage myself and listen everything.

You started at an older "adult" age which is probably why you never went overboard. That's going to be the same with me since I'll be 26 by then. I think by the time you hit 23, the thrill of drinking is basically gone so it's easier just to be a casual drinker. Thanks for the input :)

I am 22 years old and i started drinking during my college days two years back.then it was not so frequent just once in a month. But now it has increased to twice in a week and that too 8-9 drinks. Now i m thinking to quit this habit in the coming year thats why i'll not be drinking on 31st

Good resolution to make! You gotta quit now before it gets out of hand, it sounds like it's getting close to that now. Good luck on quiting!! Just get addicted to the internet instead :)

Well I mainly only have a couple of drinks if I am at a special occasion for weddings, parties, or something like that I used to drink a bit more when I was younger but now when I am at my age I believe that I have mellowed a lot and that is why I find that I can have just as much fun without too much to drink, as for people getting drunk I do not see anything in it besides those who do normally spoil the fun for others unless they drink in moderation.

I hear that a lot lately about people mellowing as they age. Drinking seems to lose it's appeal once you are legally allowed to do it whenever you want! Good thing though, or else we'd have drunk adults all over the place and that wouldn't be so good for our society.

We are the same age and definitely on the same boat. I too promised to have my first drink or two for my wedding, but to be honest I am not looking forward to it. My reason for choosing not to drink came from knowing people who did and lost control of their lives. I do not encourage anyone to drink, and if you have to...do it responsibly. Thanks for the post.

Wow someone like me :) Well I don't "have" to, I just want to :) I want to see what it taste like and what it feels like. 1 or 2 should give me enough of a feeling that I will definitely not drink more than that. So that's pretty responsible. Good luck on your wedding too!

I drink every now and then. I started in high school, but only at parties and stuff. Once I got out on my own it wasn't so appealing anymore. I will probably have a drink tonight, being new years and all, but it isn't something I do regularly.

I drink alot especially tonight as it is new years night i think i have a drink nearly every night just to stop the boredom. I wish i had not drank at all it is bad and always ends up in fights. I started when i was about 12 although i did not drink alot. To be honest i have not meet any other people who have not drank but in my area alot of people drink. You will enjoy you first drink but just watch it changes people. Good post + rating.

Congrats on your personal goal. I have really one had one drink in my life and that was at the age of 31. It was a shot. And I was no where near drunk. It had no effect on me (that I know of).

I do Drink, but it's very occassional, although sometimes I can go over the top. I had my first drink at a young age, and used to get drunk, but as I get older I realise that if you have a drink you don't have to get drunk as there is not much point to it as you might end up being sick, hurting yourself or others and then you will probably get a hang over and can't do anything the next day. Good Lick and Best wishes for you wedding and enjoy your first (and second)drink!

See you tried it, didn't like it, and stopped it. I still have friends who get drunk! and they've gotten sick many times! I just don't get why you would purposely put your body through that even after you didn't react well the first time. Good for you on cutting it out.. although 1 drink shouldn't hurt ;)

I used to drink years ago, only because all my friends at the time hung out at bars and clubs. So I was just a social drinker. I was involed with an alchoholic for 10 years so I saw firsthand what it can do to ruin people's lives. Drinking in moderation is fine, but when it becomes an addiction it is tragic.

Do you never drink? or have you drank and you now gave it up? This discussion isn't about drinking, but about when and why people drink, and also why people like you don't drink. Let me know what you think about drinking and why you don't do it :)

I think that's a little extreme. It's only dangerous if you are an idiot and getting wasted! If you have a drink or 2 drinks, you are not going to be "dangerous"

I always had in mind to give it a shot for fun sake, but the time that i actually did it i hated it. It tastes nothing more than a medicine, having medicine when you are not sick is insane isn't it? So i though that i would never ever drink again. Now till the present day i have stood by my decision by and large and hope not to break it.

Yep I've heard some people just simply do not like the taste of it! I guess that makes it easier to avoid :) I actually think I will like the taste of the types of drinks I want to try, b/c I like the smell... and they say you smell basically the same thing you taste! Good for you though :)
