I am 5'4 and 305 pounds. The majority of my weight I gained during pregnancy 10 years ago. I lost some of the weight but it seemed like I was constantly on a roller coaster. I am now at my heaviest. Has anyone had the Lap Band Surgery? Was it a success or have you had complications? Did you file insurance to pay for the surgery?

Hello, I had the Lap-Band surgery on 5-2-06 and am going to have it removed on 2-20-07 . I was 5'2 and weighed 248 when I had my Lap-band surgery. I have over the last 9 moths had nothing but trouble with it I have lost 34lbs and I went from a size 24 to a 16 I truly believe the size loss was through exersize. I have opted to have the band removed and am going ahead with gastric bypass surgery. I must add that I work with the surgeon and see all of his patients weekly and see for myself how wonderful this surgery has been for most of the patients but I have come to the realization that the band is not for everyone.

I've never heard of that before. My brother's friend recently had gastric bypass surgery. Her insurance paid for it. She's lost alot of weight. It's been about 6 months now and she's hit a plateau. So far it's been a success.
