Hey friends my parents are going to buy me a computer. But i m a bit confused between laptop and desktop. If i go for LAPTOP then it would be too expensive as the configuration i require is too costly. And if i go for DESKTOP then it is somewhat oldfashioned and LAPTOP is more mobile and portal. So i m a bit confused. Which one should i buy?

Desktop & Laptop - both have merits and demerits . As you are located in India and you appear to be a student , I'd suggest to prefer Desktop at this time . And later when you earn enough money , you can buy a good laptop . All the best .

It depends for what do you want to use that computer. If you want it for games.. than use a desktop.. if you want for internet and documents.. buy a laptop. If you want to have mobility and games.. that might be a performant laptop.. wich is more expensive.

The topic starter is Indian - from Mumbai . getting a good mobile internet connection is very difficult in India . we have just a few wi-fi hotspots and wimax is yet to be implemented . we have to depend on GPRS thru a cellphone modem which is very slow ...

Hey it depends on your needs.....if you travel a lot and need your comp to bewith you all thetime then go for laptop...but if the scenario is other way then go got a desktop coz the cost will be reduced a lot and you will be able to get higher configuration on that very cost....

Personally I would prefer a laptop. I have only one computer, and chose a laptop, that way I can take it places with me if I need to. I can even sit here on the couch with it in my lap. =) But if you can't afford a laptop, go for the desktop.
