Is it necessary to have a gmail Id to sign up in MYLOT?

When my friend referred me, he asked me to create a gmail Id and then sign in to MYLOt. Is it really required? or can we sign up with yahoo email IDs also

I have a g-mail address that I used to sign up for Mylot. However, yahoo addresses and any other addresses should be fine. The only thing you'd have to look out for, however, is that mails from mylot are not sent into junk mail in free mail servers like hotmail and yahoo.

I'm signed up with a yahoo address. Works fine for me. I've been paid and everything - for November, at least. I don't see what a gmail account has to do with anything. Other than maybe the spam filter and the tiled response system.
