The well-known Islamist leader Ayatoldyah Khomengetsom, in an interview on Saudi television station All-Reallrichguys, offered money, food, burkhas, medicine, doctors, Korans - and lots of sand for the sandbags - to the refugees in not only New Orleans but to all of the refugees of the hurricane ravaged areas.
In comment, the Ayatoldyah stated "We are all Allah's children. It is not right that only New Orleans is being focused on by everyone except President Bush. We stand ready to not only do what he cannot do, due his aversion to mosquitoes - go to New Orleans - but to also give to those many thousands of Allah's children in the other places destroyed by Katrina."
A State Department spokesman speaking on condition of anonymity stated "We do not need any assistance at this time. We have more than enough burkhas for the refugees and there is not enough electricity for reading."
A question from this reporter as to what is needed and what would be accepted, the same anonymous State Department spokesman allowed "Oil is what is needed. As much oil as it is possible for us to be given. Oil by the barrel, the shipload, the truckload, any amount of oil."
A follow-up question on whether or not the Bush government would deal with the Ayatoldyah and his organization if they offered oil, the same anonymous State Department spokesman said "What did you hear? Are they going to offer us oil? Let me be the first to say thank you to that great leader and visionary of peace, the Ayatoldyah Khomengetsom! I can speak with authority on this and say that for every million barrels of oil sent - through one of our offshore accounts - a one-week, all-expenses-paid visit to tour the refugee camps will be arranged so that the Ayatoldyah can see the improvement in the crisis in which his offer will result."
