Aftermath of Saddam Hussein's death

With the recently concluded execution of Saddam there many speculations about the future of Iraq. One example is, with the death of the dictator there's a great possibility that Iraq will be divided into three new nation-states. One for region for Sunni's, One region for Shiite's and one region for the Kurds. However, this change will not be easy. Personally, I see that Iraq is heading with an all out civil war and it seems even the United States of America will not be able to prevent it. Also, the United Nations will not be able to prevent the upcoming civil war in Iraq because of growing nationalism amongst nations witin Iraq's borders. If ever, will be divided among three (3) separate nation-states this will alter the balance of power not only in the Middle East region but also the world.

Civil war in Iraq has been going on for months now. The name has been changed to protect the responsible, namely Bush. The UN tried to tell him that destabilization of the region was not a good idea. People who still think along tribal lines cannot hop into democracy all of a sudden. Basic concepts of what it means to belong to something larger than your neighborhood have to be developed first. At 50, I seriously doubt I am going to live long enough to see this disaster settled. I really feel bad for those who are just now in their 20's and even some in their 30's. You will never know what it was like when leaders were rleatively sane and at least pretended to care about the other people on earth.

Well, it won't change anything on the ground. Indeed it will probably make things worse in Iraq. I think it's ironic that we are going after Saddam, when the U.S. is the one who propped him up and gave him chemical weapons to begin with.

I think execution of Saddam will create an uproar not only in Iraq but also in the whole Islamic world. It may also divide muslims in shias and sunnis and lead to resentment in the minds of muslims against west especially USA.

I personally don't feel the execution of Saddam will have any impact on that country. The people of Irag have made there own problems and they should be doing more to take a stand against the ones causing this war. The people need to take a stand and stop being afraid. I think all countries should elect the leaders that will give them great leadership and help the people not control them. All people need to work together to make this world a better place to live. Why can't everyone just get along, share what they have that is prosperous, stop trying to be in control of the world and take over. What will they gain in the process? I myself want to know what all the fighting is for? Let's make the world a more beautiful, happy and loving place to live.

I think we should stay out of it and bring our men home. It is a terrible shame that alot of our men had to die for something that will never change with Irag and other ones. Let them fight their own war.Yes it true they nothing all they know is fight fight fight. Enough with that. we are not animals. We must learn not to fight like them. The person we need to find is Osma beLandid. He is the one when caught should severially punished and dealth to him. We should be putting more into finding that s.o.b.

well.. I would have to agree.. the Americans should not be fighting just because of some stupid reasons... think of how the Vietnam war was.. fight for nothing. And .. who knows... Osma Binladin wasn't behind the plot.. or something.. the American government is good at making stories afterall..

Actually, this is a major dilemna for the US, Britain and the other countries that have gone into Iraq. They were killing each other before we went in. They are killing each other while we are there and if we withdraw they will still be killing each other, just a little faster. If other Sunni or Shiite countries step in on either side the situation will just spread and get worse. The Kurds are just stuck "in the middle" so to speak. If we send in more troops and try to enforce "peace" we are the bad guys but if we don't, we are still the bad guys for not preventing the killing. Would splitting up the country actually work? I don't think so because then they would complain that one of the other groups got a better "deal" than they did and they would try to "take back" what was taken from them.

no.. see... the Americans become a bad guy for everything they do.. 'cuz they interfere with other countries' affair in the first place.. it's not even their country.. and they aren't Arabs or Asians themselves... the Americans should've stayed neutral... and stop interfering with the UN, also.

Iraq might recover sometime in the near or distant future, but the main question is will the US be able to face the consequences?

US is facing consequences all along.. shame in the president's actions... recession of economics.. morale... whatsoever.. that's just so much for trying to take control of the oil rigs in the Middle East

The only person responsible for each and every life lost in iraq nonother than the new dictator george w bush. Even after un agents after searching for chemical weapons give saddam a clean chit but ater this also bush attacked iraq for what cause can he prove any one of the reasons he said for the war he should be taken to the court

There is no issue of balance of power. All the power rest upon USA.. Everyone else is just a puppet in their hands. Iran is resisting, but I really dont think than they can do anything against USA. This is because they have a strong economy to back them, which, most of Middle east lack. Those who have a strong economy, like UAE and Israel, back US.

Ya this is true that saddam is executed but there's also a possibility that many other saddam's with take birth to take revenge from US. as the muslims all over the world are hurt so much. No matter saddam was a dictator no matter he was a cruel killer but then too he was a President god damid!! so this would not be tolerated by Islaam.

It was i think the personal agenda of Pres.bush to have him executed by a kangroo court orders. But this execution has widened the rift between Sunni and Shites and unknowingly they have increased the influance of Iran.United states at the same time is going against the wishes of other dominant Sunni arab states.

While this discussion has merits I see only one thing that would make splitting the country into three nation states. It is the question of the Kurds. Iraq's northern border countries have a lot of Kurds as citizens and if they spin off and become a separate state it could very well cause problems with the Kurds in these other states. Then it would indeed turn into an international spitball fight. One question I have is why are the Iraquis fighting among themselves and against the allied presence and didn't do anything against Saddam. Had they joined forces at that time then he would have been gone a long time ago and there would have been less reason for the allies to intervene. Just a thought.

Surely Iraq will be divided, but i don't think it will lead to Iraq's downfall. There are still who believe in the better side of ruling the country. And i believe Saddam's supporters are only few compared to those who are badly affected by his dictatorship.

Saddam Hussein was the supreme man in Iraq 1year ago and 1yr after he is hanged. There is thousands of people who have supported him thats why now iraq is full of civil wars. Now as he is hanged the war will be on the rise.Americans troops are inside a volcano which will explode within days.they have to face the worst of situations than the war on iraq which they say won.America,s interests are not gonna be made with ease they will have sacrifice more than they can think of.

When i heard of the execution news I was shocked and was filled with feeling of hatred towards Bush. Although I had nothing to do with saddam or bush but it was unjustice that developed hard feelings. Iraq may be divided and it's not whether two or three portions but more may develop if an equivallent stature leadership doesn't hold up soon. Definetly aftereffects of this execution will keep on arising as saddam's execution has raised sentiments in people of Iraq who liked him and in those too who disliked him. Currently no strong leadership is there and US cannot hold into this state of anarchy. Division depends on one more major factor in that area i.e. Iran. If irean supports out any group then there is no escape. More possibilities will arise

I think the country was headed towards a violent civil war regardless of what had happened to its former dictator. Iraq has been prostrate for over a decade now, the balance having already shifted to Iran in the East.
