Starting to understand why people ask things like..."What's your favorite color?

I'm fairly new to Mylot and I've posted some pretty sensitive personal information on here and asked for advice. I've gotten some really great responses!!! And I want to say "Thank you" to all those that have taken the time to help me!!! However, I also get attacked for the things I write, people write rude comments about my children, etc. It's really ticking me off. I think these people just go around looking for someone to pick on. These people are like the bullies in high school!! I think Mylot needs to put a stop to a lot of things that go on here and this too. These rude people do not realize that even though you are not meeting these people face-to-face, your comments still hurt!!! And there's just no reason for them. Therefore I can understand why people ask silly questions, becuz when you type something REAL on here...you have those few that just take your discussion and rip it apart for no reason. Now, don't get me wrong. I know that noone is going to like every response they get. And I know that I'm asking for people's opinions, but I'm not asking for you to be rude, mean, and hateful. You can post your opinion without insulting my parenting or my kids, without insulting my religion, beliefs and so forth. Then I've had a certain person threaten to go through all my posts and leave rude responses and mark me negative on everything. Something should be done about these bullies!!! Does anyone else understand what I'm saying? Have you had this happen to you? And to Mr. Vikingswest or whatever your name is...I know, I'm complaining again...Don't waste your time being rude, Your responses will go without any further responses from me.

I have never SEEN this kind of thing on any of my discussions, but most of them aren't too personal. In my opinion, it's easier to just post common interest discussions because most people are already set in their ways about everything from raising children to religion to lifestyles. Also, even if someone is being rude, don't take it personally. It's just fueling their fire.

I understand. And you are very right. I shouldn't of responded to these morons in the first place, and I won't again. I can take critisism (sp). But some just take it too far. I think that alot of Mylotters have left because of all the drama on here. It's like being in high school again...lol. I hope some people will reconsider being rude after reading this. After all, when you push away all the people who are on here trying to have meaningful discussions, who are they going to give their stupid replies to then? The ones with "What's my favorite color?"...Then Mylot will go under and noone will ever have great conversations or make any money!

Ah...yes...there are some odd questions and responses...I have posted a couple questions one I got a great response from overall and another...nothing. I don't get it. I think sometimes that its the fact that some people are just in on this site to make some huge money. I don't really get who one can...I am still trying to figure my way through that process...lol I for one only answer questions in which I have a good response to. I cannot stand when I see the one word answers or the jargon typed. And for the rude responses...well its kinda ridiculous....if you don't agree with someones post or comment there is a tactful way of putting it without being rude. My motto is ...I don't let rude people get ya....that is what they want is to get ya' all riled up....

I first devised a method to retaliate with such posts. I remember once replying to a question "What you do first thing in the morning?" I replied "I open my eyes" lol. Because i could not think up more meaningless answer to an equally meaningless question. And sincerely I think you must report that certain person to myLot admins. I have found them very tentative and helpful. Just forward his or her threatening messages by copying/pasting in your personal message and let admins do their part. No point in worrying about such low-lifes.

LOL!! Yes, I do not believe that many humans have the talent to get up, brush our teeth, get dressed and go to work before we open our eyes! *laugh* You actually _had_ the best response possible to that question. How funny! ^_^

Don't sweat it darlin'. People like to be a hard butt with a keyboard. (A nice way to say bad @$$ with a keyboard.) =P Some people just don't realize that they're reading text on a computer screen. But someBODY wrote that text. Meaning a human being, a person, wrote it for you to read. I've been there too though. I post discussions quite often that don't relate to my life though. I asked once about "inter-racial relationships." I asked if people thought it was "right or wrong." or "Acceptable." Or if there was a double standard for certain races. What did I get? Bashing. lol. There were a few people who bashed me personally thinking I was saying it wasn't acceptable. When in reality, I just wanted to see what the majority of Mylot users saw in this topic. I have a post about taking "Advice too seriously." because it seems like the more advice discussions there are, the more responses they have. Which is great. But some people (like me) simply want people's opinions or thoughts. Not really because I feel a certain way or think a certain thing. Anyways. Great post. People should step back and remember there are people out there. We're not all glass and wires behind your monitor. We're PEOPLE.

EXACTLY!!! Very well said. I just think some people get their kicks off putting people down and attacking them for their opinions. And that's not right. But I guess you'll have that everywhere. I'm going to ignore and report them, that's all we can do, right?

I am so sorry that you have had some negative experiences here at Mylot. There are so many friendly and encouraging people in this community, but there are always going to be the baddies as well. I am reluctant myself to post anything very personal or revealing because I'm quite sensitive and shy and wouldn't know how to take a personal attack like what you are describing. I didn't realize that there were people on here that are vindictive enough to threaten you with going through and marking all your posts as negative! What a nasty thing to do. I love going through and marking posts as _positive_! But that is just my nature, I suppose. I hope that you continue to have many, many _good_ experiences here on Mylot, and that the baddies stay away from you as much as possible! ^_^

I think when people start talking first time they first try to introduce themselves but when introduction is completed they try to talk freely .Thats why they ask some personel questions so they can understand the next one and they try to not to talk somethin like that other one dont like , other wise i think if these questions wouldnt be asked it would become difficult to communicate and share the feeling.

That is the 1 major flaw with mylot. Even tho it gives us the freedom to voice our opnions it also allows morons to voice there opnions and be utterly rude in the process. Even tho I agree it shouldent be allowed we all have to remember there are members who are only here for the money and not the quality of the mylot community. Just ignore them as much as possible. I relise that there words can hurt but like anything else let it roll off your shoulder and just move on the the responses that are heartfelt and honest. That is what I do most of the time.

we all come accros the ideots with nothing but criticism to offer, it is them that have the problem not you, keep on posting you are doing a great job, best to just ignore the low lifes who gather whenever a few cents on offer but they rarely have the brain to enter adult discussion. Let them content themselves with their faqvourite coulor type discussions and leave the adults to hold proper discussions

I agree with you Stephanie5. I too have noticed that some people who have responded to posts here, have just about as much sublety as a sledge hammer. There are lots of nice people here on MyLot and if you should happen to get a couple of abusive or rude comments from the bad ones, then just move on and ignore them. I must say, I enjoy your discussions and whereas I don't always have an answer, I find them quite interesting. Now, smile, and don't let these bullies get to you.

I just put in random things to talk about. I think some people just need an outlet at times. I do not put too much personal info on here. It is the internet. :-)

Don't suffer dear...I guess all forums have their idiots and their nice people. Whenever you post something, just skim through the responses you get...if you notice that there is something you don't like, just skip it and read only sensible answers. Bulliying deserves no attention from anyone. :)

There will always be bullies, and they best thing you can do is ignore them... they like attention. Also, when you cannot hear the voice of a person (tone, inflection) and see their non-verbal communication, it is very easy to misread what they have written or at least what they intended to write. This is especially true if you don't know someone very well. I try to hear the best voice when I read a post and only take something as a negative when it is explicit or clear. Hope this helps!

It did help, thank you very much! And you are right! I've probably took things out of context before and if it's brought to my attention, I apologize. But there are definitely some bullies on here, lol!!! I'm just going to ignore them from now on...thank you! Have a great day!

I have seen a few instances of this but most of those people are gone. When you have something like that happen, report it to my lot. I have been fortunate not to have very many rude kinds of posts. I am sorry that you have experienced this. We are supposed to all be friendly an helpful to each other here on myLot. Again, I would report the instances where this happened.

I am SO sorry this happened to you. Not only is it uncalled for to say something rude to/about you, but saying anything about your kids or your parenting is horrible! I got in a fight with my friends husband last night because of that. He didn't like how I raise my daughter and threw a hissy fit because I 1. said I didn't want her to grow up (I like her baby stage so what) and 2. because she's still in the same room as me (she's 7 months. so what.) He even had to go as far as to say "I've seen how kids end up." Yeah.. I flipped out.

well, there's always going to be idiots online, but mylot does have a way, if someone responds to one of your topics that is just plainly insulting, then rate them (-) or report them if its bad enough. if it continues, then they will delete the posts and probably the person. since this is a public forum, you need to watch out for your self. internet bullies will always be out there because the internet in annonomus.

I actually gor ONE very rude comment from a person and it really upset me since i was asking about a true problem and this guy just came right out adnd attaced me for no reason, saying that I probably brought it on myself. I do belive that there is alot of hatred going around in this world, and therefor even on mylot. I do not see why people have to be mean to eachother - but I guess it is daily life =(

Idiots will be everywhere - Mylot just will seem like it has more of them because the site is so big that it's getting hard for the mods to manage. The best thing is to let it roll off your back and don't sweat it - we can't control what others say, we can only control how we respond.

It's easy to be brave sitting behind a keyboard where the person you are responding to can't find you. I have encountered "cyber-bullies" on AOL for years. Just ignore them. They only post because they want the attention...and in this case, the money. :-)
