Most of my favorite authors were recommended by someone else, or I read a review of one of their books and thought I would give it a try. After I saw how great the book was I went out and read everything else the author wrote.

My favorite author is Terry Pratchett. I love his books because he has a flair not only for descriptive writing and clever turns of phrase, but his satire is the greatest written satire of the era. His parodies are subtle and understated, with so many layers that it's impossible to pick up on everything with one read through. And despite his books being mainly satire, he still is able to create amazingly in depth and unique characters and intricate, gripping plots.
