My cat has never had a bath, but I hear people do it. Don't you get scratched? Do you give them baths all the time? How do I keep him in the tub?

I would only give my cat a bath is she really needed it. Had something in her fur or smelled really awful. If you cat is not cleaning itself properly then it might be ill and it might be a good idea to take your kitty to the vet. Most of the time kitty are pretty good about cleaning themselves. I would suggest taking your cat to the groomers rather than embarking on the cat bath yourself.

Good suggestion taking the cat to a groomer! Would a groomer do a cat? I haven't ever seen a cat at a groomer's place.

Cats don't usually need baths. Usually brushing them will be all the help they need (a necessity if the cat has long hair). I would say not to subject the cat (or yourself) to a bath unless it is very necessary. IF it is necessary, try using the kitchen sink instead of the tub, it will be an easier angle and height for you to work from. Having a spray nozzle helps a lot, too. If you have a friend who can help, all the better. (Make sure they have their own health insurance first! Also, it is unwritten law that anyone who helps you bathe a cat will never be asked to help you move house). :-) You could also get a groomer or vet's office to do the dirty work for you.

I don't give my cats a bath. They generally don't need it. Once I had to take care of a neighbor's kitten who unfortunatly had ringworm and some of my cats got the ringworm too. The vet told me to bath my cats in a medicated shampoo that smelled like egg water. It was a nightmare trying to get the cats into the bathtub and shampooing them and rinsing them off and drying them. They were totally terrified and the meows were awful. I only had to do this once in order to get rid of the ringworm and that experience happened over ten years ago and I will never forget it. If you absolutly have to give your cat a bath for some reason I would highly recommend getting help or seeing if the vet's office will do it for you. Last year I rescued a long haired adult cat who survived Hurricane Katrina--her fur was tangled with mud. She looked really bad. I took her over to the vets office and she actually needed to be shaved before they could give her a bath. It took a little while for her fur to grow out but she is beautiful.

You know that's a good question. I have only given one cat a bath, and it was a necessity. He smelled like a skunk. He of course hated the bath and I wore trenches dug itno my arm for weeks after that. I agree with the others; cats don't really need baths. THey are generally clean animals and most do a good job of cleaning themselves. THey are self=sufficient that way.

We give our cats baths something like annually, or less. My mom does it, and she never has problems, but I don't know how she manages as she locks the bathroom door, so I don't watch. It's certainly noisy though.

its not a good idea, not that they are afraid of water, but they have oils in their fur, that protects them from the climates.also if you like your eyes be warned, thats the first thing they would go for if threatend
