Keeping an adult medicated for SSI money?

I know a lady who has an adult 18 year old son, she is trying to keep him medicated for SSI money. The son is fine and doesn't need medication, but the mother wants money. Does the son have any rights? Is he able to have this money stopped? He does not want the money, he wants to work.

He has the right to refuse medication. Even in a hospital setting he has that right. Even if he is now able to work, his SSI would not be stopped but put on hold. He can ask for an assessment with his doctor as to whether or not it is ok to discontinue meds. At the age of 18, unless he has been declared incompetent he can handle his own funds, if legally incompetent he can assign a person other than his mother to control his money and accept his checks. I suggest he consult his doctor and perhaps check with SSI about the status of his competency, and making arrangements for an alternative payee if needed.

Thank you, I wasn't quite sure how all the SSI stuff worked.
